The article says the cop "might have" hit a patch of gravel.

    Yah.

At least the Ferrari was weaving around cars; the cop was hitting them.

Running out of your class: never a good idea.

Time to stash that horse in the barn and drive your nice, blue New Beetle for a few months, until the heat dies down.

Here in Canada, this is what everyone does. Every week, when we are not playing hockey or drinking beer, we pull up to a stoplight. We make sure that there is a cop close by. We floor the accelerator and drive off. The cop usually gives chase. We slow down a little bit, letting him think that we are going to pull over, and then, we FLOOR IT. You get 0 points if he gets you. You get 5 points if you get away, and 25 points if he crashes. You get bonus points if the story is in the paper. This guy was obviously going for the high score.

@.357 [Advertise Here For Only One Gold Star!]: In California, they have to catch you in the car within 24 hours to make an arrest. Back when Alameda was Street Racing Hell, the usual M.O. was to use big-block power to get your (Chevelle/Satellite/Torino) a couple blocks ahead of John Law, then park the car, run through a few back yards, then come back 24 hours and 5 minutes later... at which time a smiling cop would issue 547 fix-it tickets and let you know you were On His List.
