I like the looks of it, but I wish they'd done a little more under the hood than just add 10hp and shave off 175lbs. I could get the same performance increase by just popping a Tornado in and leaving my wife at home. #porscheboxster
Please, no more complaints about the top looking like an afterthought or not sealing well around the windows.
It's a roadster, not a convertible. [en.wikipedia.org]
The top _is_ an afterthought. It's not supposed to keep you warm, toasty, and cocooned in silence. It's to keep crap out of your car when you park it, or to get you home without soaking your interior if your Saturday drive is cut short by a surprise rain shower.
Do you also whine about the top on a Lotus Seven? #porscheboxster
@Ryanrule: The Boxster Spyder, the Porsche that will match a "porshce for real" in acceleration, will outhandle a "porshce for real," and evidently make you less of a smug jackass d-bag than a "porshce for real," all the while costing $16,000 less than a "porshce for real."
Why do I get the impression you drive a clapped out Tercel? #porscheboxster
I'm rather unimpressed by those rear humps - it seems like an idea that worked better in theory than in execution. And the convertible top is the most awkward-looking thing since the Murcielago Roadster's glorified hairpiece. #porscheboxster
I normally think I sort of "get" brand strategy, but can someone explain what the point of a Boxter S is if this thing's available? Are there really that many subsegments in Porsche's entry model? #porscheboxster
@snapoversteer 'bout to get told: I hear ya. I think it's due to the impracticality of it. Furthermore I can't think of a car for sale today that is more of a pure sports car than this, which makes it awesome. Love the door handles. #porscheboxster
@Roggin: Ha! Delete door handles but keep AC. Actually makes perfect sense to me. I also appreciate the 5-point compatible seats, but one our local tracks requires your rollover protection to clear your helmet by a few inches. I wouldn't mind taller hoops.
I don't know that it's more pure than an Elise, but I do like it much better than the Boxster S. #porscheboxster
I'm still put off by the fact that these days we consider 2,800lb "light" for a sports-car. 35 years ago Porsche was making production cars that weighed 29% less than that! 29% percent lighter than their lightest offering today! Light and nimble is what made the company. I think we accept far too little from them these days. #porscheboxster
Very nice-either the Boxter lends itself more readily to the Speedster look than the 911, or they've done a better job of integrating the design, but this works for me. Looking at the profile though, I can't help but think how a cut-down windshield would sex it up-and even more importantly, make it that much less practical. Speaking of which, its hard to imagine this as someone's one-and-only Porsche, though I doubt that's the intended demographic. Though maybe someone in sunnier climes than mine could make it work. #porscheboxster
I don't generally give a rat's ass about Porsche but it sounds like a 320hp boatload of fun. Dropping 80kg and gaining a medium Briggs worth of power can't be bad. Saddle up, ride that rascal.
The one thing that doesn't really compute is the roadster top. I'd make it a hardtop. Stiffer, lighter, faster. Yeah, yeah, yeah - Spyder. I get it. Still. #porscheboxster
Would be absolutely amazing with about 100 more hp (which I think they could do and keep it well under 3,000 lbs) and about 50-100 more ft-lbs of torque. Makes me wonder why they just didn't redesign this body with 911 styling and make this the new 911? #porscheboxster
@NomadaNare: Probably because it's not a traditional ass-backwards design where the engine hangs way past the rear axles? To be a 911, you need to be like that. Even their older racing GT1 cars were like that too. Surprising they won so many races. #porscheboxster
@NomadaNare: No, they really couldn't. Adding more power would require a larger, heavier engine, as well as reworking the entire drivetrain (spindles, axles, transmission, clutch, etc.) with heavier parts. In addition, you would want to increase the tread patch or else that extra power would be wasted (read: bigger wheels and tires out back, for more weight) and increase your breaking capacity, as you would need to be able to scrub off that extra speed (larger heavier discs). The GT3 RS weighs 3000lbs, and only does so by using higher tech and much more expensive parts in order to be tough enough to take the 450hp beating. The whole point was to be a (relatively) low cost car that gives you the roadster experience.
Then there is also the part where they are clinging (somewhat unnecessarily) to tradition, and they can't have the other models outstrip the 911.
@Elhigh: @ThreeLitre: I have nothing against the stripe itself... I just found it funny that it was the exact same design; a thick stripe flanked by two thin ones, which was a design I always attributed to Shelby's. #porscheboxster

Can someone please take the GT500 side stripes off the Porsche? #porscheboxster

I'll grant you, Shelby's of the 1960s were doing it, too, but this is hardly a new phenomenon. #porscheboxster
