W126s are still pretty common around here. The other three are not.

I did, however, see a two-door MkII Jetta the other night. Wish I'd been able to photograph that...

The W126, like, in general looks remarkably fresh for a design that was introduced thirty years ago. I don't know why it seems so 'modern' to me, or why today is the day I come to this realisation, but it seems like something that was pinned five years after it was.

@A strolling player is: Gold Member!:

In my opinion, there's never been a better looking S-class than the W126. Expensive and formal looking, yet with just enough aero sleekness to make it look modern. It's not fat-looking like the follow-up W140, and not too self-consciously "styled" like the post-1999 models.

@A strolling player is: Gold Member!: I have to agree. There is something about that design that is so timeless, but not in an old-fashioned sense of the word.

@A strolling player is: Gold Member!: Agreed, it's a great design. The proportions are about perfect, and it's neither over- nor under-styled, as many cars of it's day were.

Murilee got Tomsk to work for her (after treating him gently with her whip) and Murilee herself got to the LeMons racing and at night she is hanging out with a guy with a Rat Rot.

325k?! Pfft, the way the economy's going you'll be able to pick up a 908 or 917 for that kind of scratch before too long...

I've only seen one of these in my life, and my pants got tight just walking up to it. It oozed purpose and batshit Tasmanian Devil frenzy, no doubt.

But there's no way it's worth that much. Provenance is great, but on an otherwise pedestrian car you could cobble together from parts? No way. If it has an absolutely ironclad pedigree and a winning history, I could see it going to $150K.

It bugs me slightly that cars like this get bid out the window, even when their intrinsic value is so modest. Has to be a crack pipe, even if I love the car.

    Ridiculous price.

$300 grand is 916 territory. A pristine 914-6 will run you $25K-$30K, add about a 50% premium for the limited factory racing heritage and you've got yourself a $45K car, $50K tops.

So, Tatum O'Neal, George Michael, and this 914 seller: passing the crack pipe.

Now, if you really, really want to drop $300-large on a mid-engine lap whore, how about this:

An early 911 with racing pedigree wouldn't even fetch that much.

Cool car, though. $50k might even be a fair price for this. Not $325k.

Yeah, its a lot. Buttttttt.... you have to remember that this is a one-off numbers-correct all-original Porsche factory special-project racer. Which is like an orgasm on four wheels to Porsche fanatics. I mean, can you imagine the bragging rights that some collector is going to have at the next Porsche Club concours? Seriously, he's going to be the biggest swinging dick there.

It may sound like a lot to us, but we're just not viewing it through the proper prism of Porsche fanaticism.

@Almostbanned: With no actual competition history, I initially thought this was overpriced. Then I checked the price on a 911R with a documented race history (see below)....YIKES!!.....and now I declare this 914-6 a modest bargain for the wealthy Porschephile seeking bragging rights.
