man, that thing is nice! homeboy looks like he could use the flappy paddle gearbox though, it look like he just couldn't shift it fast enough and when he took his hand off the wheel to shift it looked like he was going to ditch it.
i absolutely loved the whine of the turbo on the track car... that should be a question of the day, what sound better a turbo or a supercharger? #porsche911gt3rs
@B1663R: GT3s have never had turbos. GT2s and Turbos (obviously) are turbocharged, but GT3s and GT3 RSs have always just been naturally aspirated, which makes them that much more impressive.
The noise sounded like straight cut gears to me. Bonus video of a crazy-ass E36 racecar to show you what I'm talking about:
@Leeeeena the Jalopchick: i coulda sworn that i heard a distinct turbo whine and a blow off... after reviewing the footage that you attached and my dog looking at me funny i would have to say the transmission is making that sound.
in the Porsche vid when he is on the track, it just sounded so turboish, i thought that the racing team added a little somethin' somthin' to give her a bit of a boost.
it takes a big man to admit when he's wrong... lucky for me i am not a big man. #porsche911gt3rs
He who wears the tight pants is casting the bromance stone? Hmm.
Anyway, nice car, could live without the ricer paraphernalia slathered all over the side. If it were mine, I'd be attacking it with a heat gun, Goo Gone and some black paint for those poor wheels/mirrors. #porsche911gt3rs
@ChronicTeutonic: Oh Jeebus, there are some liderhosen in a bunch in here. First, I know what the heritage is. It was gaudy back then and gaudy now. Problem is, they saw the gaudy and raised it to a whole new level. If I wanted to know what it was, I would look at a tastefully understated badge on the trunk. Money could be a lot better spent not making it look like a day-glo clown car. #porsche911gt3rs
@thecrazydanish: Sorry, it is the GT3 Cup even so you could paint that car neon anything and cover it in stickers, I would still give my first child to have one. #porsche911gt3rs
@thecrazydanish: Gimme a break, it's not like it's a house on the Riviera or a hot supermodel foursome you're getting. It's a stickered up Beetle. #porsche911gt3rs
Oh f**k yeah,i need that car. Before the Porsche haterade gets sprayed all over the place i gotta say it's an RS Porsche so it gets straight into my fantasy garage. And after i drop Megan Fox home,i'll pick up Amy Smart in it..........hey it's my fantasy...... #porsche911gt3rs
@pauljones: So Hillary Duff can see past your Saturn and love you for who you are, but as soon as you get a Porsche you dump her for Kristin Kreuk? That's cold. #porsche911gt3rs
There have only been two women in this world that have, upon seeing them, made me lose control of all motor functions and run into a stationary object. Both were of Eurasian descent. #porsche911gt3rs
@B1663R: sorry i was looking for an excuse to use that picture since VW launched that stupid commercial with the talking bug that sounds an awful lot like Sgt. Shultz #volkswagen
Ah Jalopnik, so predictable - everybodys' sister's uncle's cousin's ex-girlfriend knew a guy one time with a VW and it was crap. All I know is I've got everything in the family from a 30 year old Rabbit ITC car to a 3 year old GTI daily driver owned since new with the "shite" DSG and all of them see harder service than any new Toyota or Honda will ever see on the weekends (racing, track days, autocross etc.) with no problems. Per JD Power this is impossible.
As far as the myth of the the eco-friendly nature of electrics and hybrids ask yourself 2 things -
1. Where does the battery go when it's dead and what chemical by-products were generated making it's replacement?
2. For the plug in crowd - how much pollution was made generating the electricity that was sent down the wire to charge your battery? Don't forget the transmission losses.....
How many VWs and Toyotas started the last lemons race at MSR-H and how many were running at the end?
@rickerbr: At what VW is charging these days, they should be pretty reliable. I like VWs, but the only really attractive price is on the GTI, which is enough to make one at least look at the Japanese cars.
Transmission losses are a good point...it can be up to 50% from generation to consumer. Evil losses. But refining and burning petroleum is not very efficient either, relative to the ideal. It is more fun, though. #volkswagen
@rickerbr:
1. The batteries are valuable and get recycled. NiMH and lithium aren't particularly toxic, far less than the LEAD-ACID battery in every conventional car.
2. Electric propulsion is more efficient than burning gasoline to make heat and a little forward motion. So pollution goes down even with current mix of electric generation in the USA, and gets better with natural gas generation and renewables
@brandegee: Maybe there's some aging transmission line to nowhere with 50% losses, please tell us where it is. Meanwhile average transmission & distribution losses in the USA were a mere 7% in 1995. When know-nothing anti-environmentalists bring this tired talking point up, they overlook the huge energy consumption to produce, refine, and transport gasoline. It's been said (but I haven't reviewed the math) that you can send an electric car further on the electricity it takes to make a gallon of gasoline than an internal combustion engine can travel on that gallon. #volkswagen
In Australia VW's are more expensive and less value for money than a Toyota. If Wolfsburg can change this around, then I'll believe that VW will continue to be on top for a very long time. #volkswagen
@wrx-tyrannosaurusWrx: This will bring peace in our time. (I can't believe I forgot this one. My Euro teacher in high school would be so pissed) #volkswagen
@wrx-tyrannosaurusWrx: My good friends, this is the second time there has come back from Germany to Downing Street peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Now I recommend you go home, and sleep quietly in your beds. #volkswagen
I like the looks of it, but I wish they'd done a little more under the hood than just add 10hp and shave off 175lbs. I could get the same performance increase by just popping a Tornado in and leaving my wife at home. #porscheboxster
Please, no more complaints about the top looking like an afterthought or not sealing well around the windows.
It's a roadster, not a convertible. [en.wikipedia.org]
The top _is_ an afterthought. It's not supposed to keep you warm, toasty, and cocooned in silence. It's to keep crap out of your car when you park it, or to get you home without soaking your interior if your Saturday drive is cut short by a surprise rain shower.
Do you also whine about the top on a Lotus Seven? #porscheboxster

Learn to use the term 'rice' correctly. It does not apply to a track oriented beast such as a GT3 RS in any way, shape or form. #porsche911gt3rs

@pres: This is why that is NOT rice. Circa 1973...
