"This just in, ladies and gentlemen, in response to the... uh... obvious update to the Porsche 911, Nissan has announced a similar total restyling for the GTR. Changes include a new "dark midnight charcoal grey" colour for the grille, to replace the current "flat black", and a complete restyling of the wheel-arches, moving them further outward 0.02mm, thus giving it a much more pronounced flare, and an obviously wider stance. They have also opted to spare the majority of their customers the time and trouble of undertaking the project themselves, and a full underbody neon-lighting kit will be installed straight from the factory. In response, Porsche, flush with cash from its recent takeover of Volkswagen, has purchased the Nurburgring, and posted signs, reading "NO NISANZ ALOWD".

Wow look at all of the styling changes. These current Porsche designers will most definitely be called "controversial." Imagine picking LED lights and that large single vent in the rear. Crazy.
@leavethegun-takethecannoli: Sorry, but the 911 might possibly be the most iconic car in history. A 1968 and 2008 Porsche 911 are easily identified as such despite thorough updates and refreshes. This model looks every bit as good as the original without departing from its iconic stature. I'd say that is more of a challenge than wiping yourself a clean slate with each generation.
@leavethegun-takethecannoli: Look, it's talk like that which causes a thing like Bangle to happen. Let's not see that happen at Porsche. The BMW experiment was enough for one lifetime.
@Senor Dos y Do: In retrospect, I never considered that such a thing as a "bangle" could actually occur with Porsche. That would be horrible, to say the least. Aside from that, it wouldn't hurt for Porsche designers to get a little wild with certain versions of the 911, such as the GT3. Also, everyone knows a Ferrari when they see one and they have changed their designs over the years.
Well, drat and double drat! No diesel Audis and no Porsche Spyders. This makes me especially unhappy, as I'm still hoping to be a corner worker at Belle Isle this summer. ALMS is my favorite racing series and I was so looking forward to those prototypes in particular.
okay... just read the post... haven't read the comments yet...
come on jalopnik... can't we find a way to go back to the old format that requires no left-right scrolling....
that makes all of the commentariat happier....
jalop model year '09 is not an improvement as far as individual posts go......
i understand the change in the front page... i don't need it... i read them all.. but.. i understand...
but the pages that follow... the full articles... need to follow more of the '07 format (in my opinion) with big picture... and text below... that one doesn't need to scroll back and forth to read....
and then comments... whether in classic or "new wave" form... what TF ever... we have the choice...
but i don't like having to scroll left and right constantly to try and read the journalistic posts made by the gawker paid staff (*note.... this problem isn't just jalopnik.... all gawker sites have changed font size/format and makes for a much more difficult reading experience...)
@bravenrace: If anything, there will just be less emphasis on prototypes for a while. I still think they're in better shape than Grand-Am, judging by the amount of manufacturer, sponsor and fan involvement.
@Van Sarockin: I wouldn't rule it out,as i mentioned earlier Audi or Porsche were showing an interest in the Redbull team not long ago,i think mainly to supply engines. But now a gap has appeared they are in the minority of car makers that could afford to do it.
