I can go down to my local dealer the car one, not the one who thinks his clients are his friends, choose between a wagon, ute or sedan. V8 or V6, in a wide variety of colour and a choice of either manual or auto.
I feel real guilty. Then I think "Where's Australia's Challenger? Where's Australia's Camaro the one the Aussie designed and engineered , Where's our Roush Mustang?
Suddenly I don't feel so bad for my American brothers and sisters.
Still feel a little guilty when I drive past Artarmon Holden & HSV and see what would have been a Pontiac grill now on a Holden. #pontiacg8gxp
@that ain't the way to have fun, son: Those scoops are hideous. I'd go as far as saying they completely ruin the car if it wasn't already ruined by the exact same front clip used by every Pontiac of the last 10 years and incredibly dull ass-end. Nevermind the fact that the interior has no business in a $37,000 car. #pontiacg8gxp

For me, this nose goes back to the early generations of Grand Am, which had an expiration date of 1991, and by then, it smelled funny enough to have not needed a date telling you it'd gone bad.
I've seen all of one of these on the road, and what was appealing, though not to many people, is the borderline generic look. This is why I liked the last GTO, pre-scoop skankafication. That, and it's as close to a haul-ass Holden as I'm likely to get.
Oh, and your screen name, alone, deserves a clicky. Nice to see I'm not the only one.... #pontiacg8gxp
@Wes Siler: Agreed. I bought my G8GT right after my wife totalled the e39 540 (thanks Honey!), and like the Pontiac better.
Of course, would have been even better(she's OK, of course) had I NOT just spent a few hours and a few $$$ installing new brakes and general service on the BMW.... #pontiacg8gxp
GM is doomed. In Aus, we have a revolving door on GMH headquarters, IE 3 or 4 CEO's in same number of years! AND they keep sending bloody Yanks! Other than the Commodore, they keep trying to sell us white goods from Thailand/Korea. Ford has woken up to this & dropped their Korean shit & now sell proper small cars here. As I said, GM is finished! Take note.
Ok, seriously guys... What is the point of torturing us by needlessly and constantly reminding us that we will never get the G8 ute. Hey, news flash, Americans: Australia has all the cool RWD cars, cool engines (straight 6's, etc), cool neo-Caminos, that we will never get - but on the plus side, you can have a rebadged Daewoo shitbox. Oh wait, but we're against rebadging. Hmmm...
I guess I wrote this under the wagon picture the first time, my bad.
I really do like wagons, and I really don't like an overpowering government regulation.... so I'm torn.
Is there a chance, that with increased CAFE requirements that we're going to be seeing more "real" wagons?
I can't enjoy that, because then the ends would justify the means, and that's not right..... so secretly, I'll just be happy to see more of them on the streets.
(of course this is all irrelevant because this is yet another wagon that's not coming to the USA, but it got me thinkin)
(oh, and I'm on a boring conference call, so I needed to do something slightly more productive)
@Lost in the age of Aerostar: Most 'tall-wagon' crossovers are considered 'trucks' for CAFE purposes. The Magnum was a 'truck'. So is the PT Cruiser. This is also apparently where the folks responsible for NA*OTY get their definitions.
I love a good looking wagon. And that side profile is really nice, but I wonder what the rear end looks like. Very few manufacturers put in the time and effort to design the wagon properly. It is usually an afterthought.
@CorporateFelon: The new Cadillac is promising. But after reading your comment I got to thinking about it and I'm inclined to agree with you overall. Must be the hatch that gives 'em fits. Worst offenders to me are the Lambdas but the Traverse almost works.

Now...not so much. Plus, there isn't a bogus-ass scoop-delete option.
The Bondo required to fix the excessive holes will significantly affect performance in a negative manner. #pontiacg8gxp
