Man, what a good looking car. I'd take it over a GTO anytime. It would be tough to choose between it and the Galaxy, but I think I'd end up taking the Galaxy. Pure class.

@CptSevere: The Captain of the Varsity Cheer-Leaders, and one of the hottest girls in all of Bisbee, had a '64 Bonneville, and her younger brothers would take a bunch of us little kids joy-riding while she was at the football game on Friday night. Though she was no realtor, we all fantasized about a house with her in it.

Excellent find, as always (8-lug wheels and all!).

Pontiac peaked in the mid-60s, and this is an excellent example of that.

To answer your question, I would choose the 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 (XL would be nice) with the 427 engine. But I do like the '64 Pontiac.

Another classic beauty! I was always a sucker for the parenthesis tail light! And to be taking this sweet ride down to the beach on a lovely California day in late September....sigh.

Grand Prix(s) were very desirale cars in their day, making Pontiac one of GM's hottest divisions at that time. What other car company in it's day could boast the following in 1964:

    Super Duty Catalinas
    Tempest based GTOs
Beautiful Personal Cars lie the Grand Prix
    Big Full Sized Bonnevilles

It's too bad the 4 Cylinder and V-8 versions of the rear transmission equipped Tempest was put to bed, but so what? Soon there will be Firebirds, and OHC 6 Cyllinders.

The last full sized Grand Prix, in 1968, was one of the featured cars in my ongoing posts known as the Obscure Muscle Car Paring Lot.

@UDMan: It was odd that Pontiac went to the expense of a substantial rear restyling of the Grand Prix for 1968. They didn't do that with the other big Pontiacs, and the GP was due for a switch to the mid-sized platform the next year. The '67 was a bit plain from the back, but the '68 didn't really work. One of DeLorean's few mistakes with Pontiac.

@Franzouse: No, just a set of 11" 8-lug finned alloy brake drums to roll in style. Between the trim rings and center caps is all brake drum.

Pretty cool car, and something you rarely see nowadays. However, I've always felt that the front styling of the '64s seem dull and less dynamic than the '63s and '65s - perhaps it's the headlights in their flat pans jutting out beyond the grille. The rear is more interesting - taillights hidden in the rear grille and backup lights located in the pods used for the taillights in lesser Pontiacs.

My personal favorite of the big pre-'69 GPs is the '66 model with the smooth sides, slatted rear, and a nose treatment that looks like a big GTO.

@tonyola: Here's an interesting Canada-only variation on the '66 Grand Prix - the four-door Grand Parisienne. It was basically a Bonneville with GP front and rear styling.

@Tomsk welcomes the Jezebanned home: I forgot about that, but you're right. However, it looks like you could get a 425-hp 427 with four-on-the-floor in Canadian Pontiacs - that would be very interesting indeed. Who wouldn't kill for a two-door Grand Parisienne so equipped? The maximum engine for the US Pontiac in '66 was a 376-hp 421.
