I'm doing this to one of my computers now. Whadda car. I get excited when I see the later ones (or any '80s Japanese cars) around here, for Chrissakes... the Orange Leprosy takes 'em hard and takes 'em quick.

I was pleasantly surprised to see an early-1980s Hilux with its original bed a couple weeks ago, though! And there's been a Mazda pickup of similar vintage parked just off of the road for years now; it looks like a runner, but I haven't seen it in action.

I'm sure the best part of this car is in the inside, where the aroma of hot cheese and pepperoni has permeated all the upholstery...yum. Pizza.

@NovaloadMissesPolar: The aroma of hot cheese and pepperoni... you mean it smells like the backseat of a '78 Firebird?

Having done a fair bit of pizza delivery in my distant past, I remember that what really stays is the smell of the dough. (Pizza dough, I mean, although the money was pretty damn good too.) Of course, my car had antique, sun-baked vinyl guts, so that probably makes a difference too.

@Slantsick- on layaway at SPATULA CITY: I delivered in my then-brand-new Prius for about half a year. The mix between new-car interior offgas scent and pizza was... weird.

The hood mural makes me think this guy plays way too much Warhammer 40,000.

Anyhow the Cressida is one of my favorite cars for it's class an era. I drove one for a while and was always pleased with the drive quality and the rock solid A/T.

When the Cressida got the 190-horse V6 it became something of a Q-ship. Not as riotous as the SHO, but steathily rapid for 1989.

Any predictions as to when Toyota will go back to angular styling?

Built well, cheap to buy these days, economical to operate, and reasonably safe. Excellent car for students, starving artists, or suicide car bombers looking for a good deal.

Get it hot enough to cook off the paint, wait 1-2 years. Repeat as needed.

@Elhigh: Paint brush and paint stripper is another guess. Let it sit long enough to peel the paint off then wash it and let it rust.

My good friend in high school had an '88 with all the trimmings. Silver EVERYTHING on the interior. In fact, if you drove it on a typical summer day, you risked retinal damage when the sun hit the tape deck.

Sweet ride, though. Ridiculed in mid-90s high school.

Being from the northeast, I can't really imagine cultivating rust on purpose- but I gotta admit, that's a pretty damn cool effect. Should be on the hood of the Evil Satellite, though. (Which, even more tangentially, would be a kickass name for, say, a Deep Purple tribute band.)

Kudos for the Fe2O3·nH2O hood mural, but meh to the grand-mal banality of the car overall.

This is one Cressida for which Troilus would be hard pressed to muster adoration, and it is unlikely to engender the passion necessary for one avenge its perfidy should it betray your trust.

I'd guess with the hood emblem that the car may have been owned by a wannabe rock star,no doubt if the car could talk it would tell some interesting stories.
