When I was a kid on the farm we had one in red with a flatbed on the back.......when the frame rotted away, my Dad, my brother and I put the body on a '68 F-250 4x4 frame. Also slid in a 428 from an old Galaxie in front of the four-speed. Used it during planting and harvesting season.

I still remember cussing that thing trying to start that beast, but it would pull damn near everything.....including the combine when the tranny on it failed.

    Good times. #truckmonday

Very nice old truck. The fact that the hood, doors, bed and quarter panels don't match earns bonus points. The surface rust doesn't bother me at all. There are a few battle scars, but so what. Nice old survivor.

As noted below, it's a 3/4 ton. Semi-floating rear end, 8 lug wheels. But an F100 badge? Someone replaced the hood on this F250 with the hood from an F100. Tree limb or something must have fallen on the original hood. This truck has got to have an interesting history. #truckmonday

@CptSevere: Love the car mirror on the drivers-side, and nothin' on the other (pass.) side. Got the bolt holes for "west-coasters" on both, but the only pics I can find that show any mirror are post-style like the '59 4x4 below.... Weird... #truckmonday

@skaycog: Maybe it sounds dumb of me to say it, but I think it's somewhat sad that you can't even buy a Mercury in Canada anymore, let alone a Mercury truck.

Why is a Mercury pickup cool? I don't know, but it just is.

I also got more of a kick than any sensible man should on catching sight of an old Fargo pickup on a recent visit to Montreal.... #truckmonday

@Lounge Singer Chamois: I've never heard of the Fargo; so I looked in Wikipedia. How interesting....thanks for that! Also of interest about the Fargo, is that it still exists in Turkey, where it and Desoto trucks are made by Askam Kamyon Imalat, with no technical or business connection with Chrysler. #truckmonday

@skaycog: Ah, Turkey, home of De Soto, Fargo and, indeed, one of the very last remnants of the once mighty (well, relatively) British Motor Corporation. Yes, BMC still exists, but only in Turkey.

Perhaps we need a special DOTS, Istanbul style. #truckmonday

@skaycog: IIRC, Mercury trucks are a rarity in the US because they were mainly intended for sale in Canada. Many smaller towns up here only had either a Ford or a Lincoln-Mercury dealership, so Ford trucks got rebadged to sell where they didn't have a Ford dealership. Odds are pretty good that the truck you saw came from Canada at some point long, long ago. #truckmonday

I don't understand why a truck has to be a POS beater to be considered a "real" truck. I replaced my 13 year old 125k miles Dakota because of reliability concerns. But it still looked OK.
It had a liner so the bed didn't get beat up. When the front fender rusted through, I repaired it. When the paint flaked off the tailgate, I resprayed it. When the seat cushion started coming apart, I had the panel replaced. It was the random mechanical failures that began to happen on a regular basis that led to its replacement. #truckmonday

@tankman: Every time there is an old pickup in DOTS, we get the same-old generic "trucks ain't what they used to be" crap. Truth is, you can still buy a regular cab pickup with rubber floors, roll-up windows, AM/FM, and an 8' bed.

@Paul Y. don't drive too fast.: Bravo. When you're talking heavy duty, sizes haven't inflated as much as smaller classes of vehicles. But they have become far more prevalent in everyday traffic, while compact trucks have largely disappeared from the road. #truckmonday
