@camp6ell: "Paid" is a relative term. It was arranged by Mike Levine and the folks at Pickuptrucks.com and they paid for Ricardo Inc's services, but there were many outlets involved in the actual driving and comparing.

I call shenanigans. How is that they tested a 5.4 F-150, but used a 6.2 Silverado. This test is useless unless the vehicles are competitively equipped.

The Silverado is by far the ugliest.

In fact it's the most style-free, yet ugly truck I've ever seen. Quite an achievment compared to the last F-150.

The new Ram is damn good looking, that alone would almost be enoguht to make me drop some coin on it over the others.

How much will it cost me to replace a headlight vrs my old 88' k1500-series Chevy?

Trucks are used different than cars, they should be designed as such. I don't want to spend the same amount on a headlight for a truck, than I would for my GF's lancer.

"I don't want to spend the same amount on a headlight for a truck, than I would for my GF's lancer."

Why? Headlights are supposed to project a beam of light forward on the road ahead, and (secondarily) warn oncoming traffic of your presence. How does providing that function differ between a truck vs. a Lancer?

Oh, maybe you offroad with your truck. That's great, and that's why dealers and aftermarket supply stores sell offroad light kits, because the majority of people don't need that in their truck.

Despite the economy in these here, "United States of Merica", there will always be a place and a need for the pickup. The heartland is still the heartland and when all is said and done, the farmers, construction workers, builders will settle on a pickup, whatever it's final form. That is a universal truth that you can bank on!

I always thought the Tundra, particularly in extended-cab form, was supremely ugly. All full-size trucks are trying for this anti-trophy of sorts these days, but the Tundra's the worst of the bunch. I can't figure out why, but the rear doors are the most offensive part to me, they just seem too long. I mean, come on. If you're going to make it long and ugly with a useless pickup bed, go all the way.

I was just using the 351-powered $2000 '96 F250 LeMon-mobile to tow our race car, and that thing is great. Why you'd spend $40k on a "luxury truck" is beyond me.

Dear GM: I know you're busy trying to not die, but if you find some time, please make the 6.2 available in the Silverado with a regular cab, short bed, 2WD, and a choice of 6L90E or TR6060 transmissions.

If I had to go out and buy a truck today, I think it would have to be F-150.

In fact, if they offered a diesel six in it capable of around 30mpg highway, I do believe I'd go buy one as a daily driver. I spend enough time at Lowe's on the weekends, helping the in-laws move stuff, and pining for some truck camping trips, I could probably reasonably justify one.

But the association with Toby Keith also hurts it, IMO. Mike Rowe's shilling was a lot more broad in its appeal.

It's not that we don't want a new truck. We just don't need a new truck. Trucks last a loooong time. And the rust and dents that would have a car owner looking to trade up, are just seen as "character" to the truck loving public.

@smalleyxb122: I'm with you and Ray. As I mentioned a few weeks back, I'm driving a 2000 F250 Crew Cab with a V10 and really thought I would be swapping out of an 09 F150. But this truck still looks good, (yes it has a couple character marks), drives like it did when new and performs exactly like I need it to.

I'd love to do the industry a favor by forestalling their death for a couple days by purchasing a new truck but I just can't. Not right now anyway. Maybe if they put a diesel into the F150. Maybe that would coax me into a monthly payment again.
