    And yet we had a bunch of people posting here yesterday that Clarkson was insane to pick the ZR1 over the GT-R.


    Least its just the trunk that breaks and not the whole damn transmission using what is a touted FEATURE.

    @Jim Topoleski: GM TOLD ME I COULD OPEN MY TRUNK, THEY HAD IT IN THE COMMERCIALS. ALL I DID WAS POP MY TRUNK FOR PEOPLE.


    AND NOW MY TRUNK WON'T POP. I STUCK HAVING TO TOSS THINGS BACK OVER THE SEATS AND INTO THE REAR CARGO SPOT. AND NO BODY CAN SEE THE JUNK IN MY TRUNK. AND YOU KNOW WHAT? GM CANCELLED MY TRUNK'S WARRANTY!!1! SAID IN THE OWNERS MANUAL NOT TO USE TRUNK CONTROL, AS IT MAY DAMAGE THE CAR. AND TO ONLY USE IT WHEN STUCK IN SNOW.


    DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?!!1?


    I'm buying a Datsun GTR.

    I'm sure nissan did its testing. If a slightly stouter and longer first gear fixes all of the issues, they would have implemented it into a new gearbox themselves. I bet this just delays the inevitable result of using the launch control.

    @jbownsabmw but still wants GM to survive: It'll probably just move the point of failure to another part in the drivetrain...ideally to a part that doesn't cost 20 grand to repair/replace, and hopefully to one that doesn't cause wheel-fally-offy crashiness.

    @jbownsabmw but still wants GM to survive: Not really. The biggest problem came from launch control in 1st gear, not a 1-2 shift. Making 3500+ LBS move that fast in a short gear has to be tons of stress. The car wasn't breaking when upshifting, it's that whole object at rest shit that got interesting.

    You know what the problem was, the same engineers who designed the water valve system in Maryland, escaped the mental facility, and got jobs designing transmissions for supercars from Nissan. Basically, they were destined for transmission failure from the start.
