Lame. This really doesn't prove much. A friend and I drove from Chicago to L.A. on Route 66 this summer, and then turned around and took the interstate back, about 5000 miles round trip, and we sure as hell did not spend close to $5000. The majority of the trip budget was gas. Of course, I already had a car, but I would wager you would not have to spend more than $1000 to get a car that would take you across country once. Hell, highway driving is good for cars. Further, if these yahoos are willing to camp or just rotate shift and don't stop to sleep, they will not have to worry about the cost of logging. Though, I think it is totally doable, it still sounds like a hoot.
@wookie1901: You're right. You're burning 250 gallons of gas on that trip; logging should be the least of your worries. Hydrocarbon emissions are more in line with what you should be thinking.
