110hp electric? That sounds so wrong... but seriously, if they just used a gas motor to charge capacitor banks, it wouldn't have to be as heavy as a battery hybrid, and could have the monster launch ability of an electric drag racer...
Like it or not, the modern-era GTR has been an exhibit of the latest in car tech, all in one machine. Everyone has a different balance of what's too much.
@FrankGrimes: HA! Oh, well done, that's a beautiful photoshop. Can you show how it would look with the wheels stolen off it in an apartment parking lot?
Hybrid powertrains are quickly becoming the Bluetooth earpiece of the automotive world: dorky, invasive, annoying, unnecessary, and ubiquitous. The GT-R is already massively overweight and overcomplicated but it's hardly wanting for techno credibility, since the tech it has allows it to comprehensively overcome its Manuel Uribe-style porkitudinosity.
Nissan board room:
VP #1:"How can we add more weight to the GT-R?"
VP #2 "Do you mean gravitas? The GT-R is pretty much there already."
VP #1: "No, I mean more kg's. The car is a lightweight. I know, let's make it a silly hybrid that adds another 68 kg. Then we can call it green and envirofriendly."
VP #2: "Whatevar, dude-san."
@LuciferV8: I think this was made with more love...but only because Lexus engineers are engineered.
Still, for Ferrari, super-performance cars are par for the course. The LFA is so strange and so much work went into it that one is indeed left with a hard choice...if one cannot afford both, that is.
@paulajones: Thanks so much for explaining that. I thought that might be the difference, but I wasn't sure. With the vast knowledge of all you commenters, I knew I'd get the answer.
