Having a team full of accountants means that you can do some Enron-style bookkeeping and put a smile on the LeMons Supreme Court Justices' faces with your very convincing documentation (however good that theory seemed, it didn't quite work out quite that way in practice). UDMan talked to the Bean Counters Racing team; jump away to read their story.

Just wanted to highlight a couple of teams. 1st comes team 8, the Bean Counters Racing, in none other than a Subaru Outback! The reason why they are called Bean Counters is because a couple of team members works for Price Waterhouse Coopers, one of the big accounting firms. They are based in the Hartford area, and decided to compete after hearing about this race. The car in question, was a refugee abandoned at a body shop, under some trees. It was hit on the front drivers side, and all their brakes were seized. So, according to their team captain, Bill, they had the car dragged to their upper middle class neighborhood, where they proceeded to wash and carnauba wax the beast, while tearing out the interior that was used as a sex paradise. Those are stock Outback Rims, and yes, it’s still an Auto and AWD.

Listen up guys. They have a female driver, who is not only hot on the track, but is also gifted with facts and figures (She also works for PWC, so get your mind out of the gutter). This is a team that was assessed a 40 lap penalty because Jay thought the car was worth more. The Accountants should have their documentation in place….

<![CDATA[ Subaru Teams With Harman-Kardon For In-Car Audio ]]> The R1e official unveiling dominated Subaru's press event yesterday, but a minor announcement was made that definitely caused my ears to perk up. Subaru is partnering with audio accessory maker Harman-Kardon to outfit the Subaru Legacy and Outback vehicles with high-end sound systems.

Subaru is now joins the likes of BMW and Mercedes-Benz by hooking up with Harman-Kardon for premium audio systems. I couldn't be happier. In a day and age where aftermarket audio is dying off, it's important to seek out the top-of-the-line manufacturers to supply in-car audio systems.

I got a chance to sit in a 2009 Legacy outfitted with the Harman-Kardon system and the sound was nothing short of amazing.

<![CDATA[ The Lighter Side Of Subarus: The Outback Ecto-1 ]]> Had your fill of Subarus yet with our Subaru Forester and WRX STi reviews? No? Good. Here's the lighter side of Subaru: a 2003 Outback modified to look like the famous Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters. It may not quite be the 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor, but this Outback does deserve some props for effort.

The 2003 Outback is actually the Ectomobile rebuild. The original recreated Ectomobile was built from a 1998 Outback, but it was rear-ended by a semi-truck five days prior to Halloween, which is a big downer. The rooftop gear isn't quite as decked out as the original, but it's a Subaru, what do you expect? [OhGizmo!]

<![CDATA[ Subaru Impreza Outback Sport ]]> There's a lot of throwing up going on a little in mouths all over today. Shots of what looks to be the Subaru Impreza Outback, sporting a zero-cladding policy that's made way for a strange two-tone paint scheme most visible around the fenders and bumper areas, appeared earlier. So does the higher ground clearance do anything for the oft-maligned body shape? All signs point to, "ask again later." [VW Vortex]

<![CDATA[ Quadrazontal Success! Sexazontal Time! Flying Wing! Subaru in Detroit! ]]>

Subaru, flush with the success of a first-time 200,000-units-sold year in the United States, introduced the new "Flying Wing" front end design on the Legacy and Outback, a look which will eventually replace the unloved Flying Vagina grille across the line, we imagine. The Subies claim that that the new grille design reflects the company's past life as the Nakajima Aircraft Company, although as far as we know, the Ki-84 Hayate fighter's "Special Attack Painting" color scheme is not available. Contact Ai Design for the upgrade package.

<![CDATA[ Paris Preview: Subaru Outback Facelift Uncovered ]]>

We — and the rest of Europe's motoring press — be getting our first view of the facelifted Subaru Legacy Outback, which went on sale in Japan earlier this year. Once described as "aggressive blandness" (hmm) the new design will appear in the continent's forecourts in the fall, when the new model arrives for sale. We'll see it in the states in '08. More after the jump.

<![CDATA[ If You Want Me, Give Me a SI: 2007 Subarus Get Intelligent ]]>

As Subaru reps said at the New York auto show last April, the company is launching its SI-Drive system for the 2007 model year. The system's three-position knob lets drivers adjust engine performance for driving needs and conditions — from economical to sporty. Driving modes include "Sport Sharp," which delivers the bulk of torque up front, "Intelligent," which heightens fuel efficiency, and "a-hole," which makes the car to reach every toll booth first, come hell or merging traffic. Subaru confirmed yesterday it would include the system in premium models of its 2007 Legacy (Liberty in Australia) and Outback models, which will be available to interested knob twiddlers starting September 1, 2006.

<![CDATA[ Facelifted Legacy and Outback: Effective Immediately...In Japan ]]>

Interestingly, on their restyled Legacy and Outback models (due out in Japan as of right now), the cats at Fuji Heavy Industries have decided to forego the Flying Vagina nose treatment in favor of a somewhat more restrained look that seems to recall Mazda, Ford and Acura all at once. In other words, it's a melange of aggressive blandness. Damned if you do and damned if you don't, eh Subie? The kids with the news from the lane that's not on the right have more pix and some press release crap that only Loverman and Texans might care about.
