I had a dream last night that GM was killing off the Malibu, because they were losing too much money on it.

I then decided that GM could go to court and suck one.

So, we the US taxpayers are going to bailout GM, and they're going to build a large number of Volt's in the EU even though they have no hope of selling large numbers of the US Chevy-branded production (at a price of 30k+ when gas is basically free). Got it. Why in the hell would you have 2 production centers for this?

@not4one: Petrol in Europe is still expensive,if you read the the thread at the top of the page you will see GM are still looking into it. I very much doubt after all the crap GM are going through right now that they would make the same mistake again.

Just call it the Volt, like the mini is the mini. If they must but a European brand to it, make it a Saab or an Opel.

@rocor: Well if they expect it to sell they have to get rid of the Chevy badge,Chevy is Euro speak for Daewoo,not good. It'll end up with a Vauxhall badge,which is dull but better than the Daewoo image.

@blogenfreude: Yeah they did buy them,but as they're still built in the U.K. TATA are trying it on with the goverment. Kind of give us a handout or we go & play somewhere else. So far they've asked for £1 Billion as a "loan".

According to madeitupapedia he has a house in Stroud,Gloucestershire which is the town i grew up in, since the invention of the lawnmower,nothing has happened in Stroud.

@layabout: I beg to differ Layabout: I shouldn't but I can't help it - I KNOW you're deliberately being provocative but this is not about soulless EU sourced GM products. This is about the future of GM and the US towns which produce its current/intermediate vehicle line up. The outstanding question for me is: do those in the US who criticise the GM "bailout" understand the full implications upon the US economy if GM continue to outsource their products? Do they understand that a "bailout" cannot protect "Main Street USA" unless there are Federal 'tie ins' i.e. that GM, Ford and Chrysler have to repay the people who provided their loans in the first place and who repay their taxes at source and at basic level - aka "JOE PUBLIC" - the McJob population? In the UK we will welcome the jobs but why should US citizens pay for our guys to work?! Wake up folks.....

@TommiTee: Well you took a lot more from my comment than intended. I was going for the obvious Vauxhalls are dull quip,usually seen in the middle lane of the motorway doing 60mph. My comment had nothing to do with any bailout.

Now you've mentioned it,i don't see how US citizens will be funding British built Vauxhalls, Vauxhalls have been built here for some time without US handouts as far as i'm aware.

@layabout: You're right Sir, but think on. Even through the beer goggles I question why GM went to the US Government for a bail out - then OPEL, part of the GM group, went to the German Federal Government for ANOTHER bailout - either the company is looked at as a whole or the vast majority of the electorate, in BOTH political regions, are being screwed?! GM is either a US company or its not. The loans should be sourced from ONE country and should finance the entire company: US and global 'branches' alike. TATA are looking for a bailout for their GB companies - Land Rover and Jaguar from Her Majesty's Government (HMG) - why? TATA didn't buy Jaguar and LR as a favour to ANYONE: they bought them as a business venture with its associated risks and when they thought they were going to lose they went back to HMG for a loan?! If I placed a bet at the bookies I would have to cover my stake before the bet would be accepted - why the hell hasn't the full moral, economic and physical welfare consequences of a company die out or buy out been considered? And, why should companies like the big three and TATA be allowed to buy out others without having some form of social/commnity insurance for those areas in which they are the major employer and benefactor from the public purse? I'm going to bed..
