I saw it at SFMOMA, it's OK. Eliasson is making you feel extreme sensations and think about them a little. The car is just an excuse to put you in a very chilly room. It's hard to make out the car under that cocoon, let alone its mechanicals. His pieces playing with light and water are a lot better.
Maybe it's a subtle rebuke at BMW believing that a fuel that has to be cooled or compressed at substantial expense is ever going to be a good idea.
I wonder if it would be considered art if I were to adroitly extend my middle finger and gracefully raise my hand towards him, in order to comment on the frosty relationship between himself and the real world and possibly how he as an existential individual navigates in a world defined by absurdity and irrationality?
I have a design degree from RIT. Does that mean I can stick a Hot Wheels car in a freezer, take a time lapse photo of the ice buildup and call it art? Or does this sort of thing only work for dudes that run around in the dark with colored flashlights?

Ironic...and it's lost on all those directly involved.
This had to be shipped to wherever, constructed, then have press people there to cover said "art", dismantled, and shipped back to wherever. I can't see the unassembled parts being useful for much, either.
Um, bonehead, all of this is a waste of resources, none which are powered by hydrogen.
"Eliasson has removed the car's outer shell and replaced it with a complex, translucent skin made of steel mesh, reflective steel panels, and many layers of ice."
That statement almost implies function as a car; if it were somehow driveable under that mess it could be cool in a sick, twisted way. So I'll refrain from judgment even though it looks like a fossilized dookie from Optimus Prime.

I don't get it.

I got nothin'.

So, this curvy ice cocoon supposedly has a hydrogen powered race car underneath? How does that work? What's it do? What makes the ice? Do you have some sort of schematic I can look at?

OOOOoooh, ART CARS... There should be Myers-Briggs compatability classification on these articles.

Well, it's obvious that BMW is copying the art of our Waaay Up North friends. This has been their art and culture for hundreds of years...called 'loos'. They create homes...called 'igloos' and garages...called 'carloos'. This is a little known fact.
Wes, since this story is utterly without merit (he could have just as easily stuck my mother-in-law in there), can you tell us if you've ridden an HP2 yet?
It's Schrödinger's car - it's either in there or it's not, and all we have it this man's word. If we peer inside, there will be a car, or there won't be a car.
Fuller was a terribly smart, if not terribly cooperative guy.
The Dymaxion, however? By any measure, it sucked weasel fur.
Furthermore, the fact that Fuller steadfastly refused to address the design's faults, clinging instead to his original design "advancements" even after they were proven not to work makes him look somewhat less than rational. Oh, he also spent an entire year talking to no one but his infant daughter.

Jalopnik featured the frozen Chevy Nova art car.

That's right, I bend time in my car!
...Oh wait, that wasn't time, it was space...or was it? I don't know, what does a bumper count as?

To which I'll respond with "Art is suppose to make you think, and therefore the artist is doing his (or her) job."
Great Art flourishes with controversial subject matter. Unfortunately, this fails on all counts.
