Take a drink anytime that Ray says any variation of the world "capital" and it should be a good Thursday afternoon. [CNBC]

<![CDATA[ Watch As Wert Attempts To Link The LA Auto Show To The Detroit Bailout ]]> Those of you who enjoyed our esteemed editor Ray Wert on The Coblert Report should get out the shot glasses as we have another round of the Official Car Pundit Drinking Game today at approximately 11:45 am (EST) on CNBC. The topic will be the LA Auto Show and Wert's challenge will be to try to talk about green cars, luxury convertibles and exotics within the frame of the automaker bailout. It'll be live from the floor of the show because we've been banned from using the Gawker private plane to travel. Tune in and drink up.

Unlike other recent appearances, we'll probably have more than 20 seconds to drink during this version of the Official Car Pundit Drinking Game. If you're in front of a TV and work at Sterling-Cooper, join the rest of us in raising an Old Fashioned and snark to autopunditry.

<![CDATA[ How Many Drinks Was That? Colbert Gives Jalopnik A Hummer Edition ]]> I feel this morning, after my few fleeting moments on The Colbert Report last night in a segment called "The Difference Makers" on the National Hummer Club, giddy as a little schoolboy. Despite my obvious concern that I'd be the butt of the joke, I was relieved to find I escaped unscathed — certainly doing better than GM Vice Chairman "Maximum" Bob Lutz. But, thanks to the Hummer Club coming through with some seriously juicy A-game level quotes, my ass was spared — only taking a minor humorous hit from an on-screen double entendre. Frankly, given the 40 minutes of nervous Q&A I went through last week where the segment producer extracted quite a few potential sharp-edged zingers, I figured I'd probably take a bigger hit than a throw-away blow job joke. But, despite the setting not being the usual places of punditry, it's now time to ask the same question we always ask after a night playing the Official Car Pundit Drinking Game. How many drinks was that? If you missed the segment — hit the jump to see it in full from Hulu, or follow this link to the Colbert Nation website to see my two cut-ins there.

<![CDATA[ The Post Where We Casually Mention Our Appearance Tonight On The Colbert Report ]]> OMG! So, if you happen to have your TV on tonight at 11:30 EST, you may want to flip over to Comedy Central's Colbert Report as we've buried our hatchet with Stephen (we know he's apologized in his heart). I'll be appearing on tonight's show (depending on whether they run the piece tonight — I've been told these things are mighty finicky) in a taped segment (sorry guys, no head-to-head a la Lutz) on Hummer. I've no idea whether I'll be pro-Hummer, anti-Hummer or somewhere in between. What I do know is that I'm more than likely going to look like an ass. You know what? I'm OK with that. But, as we always do, regardless of the outlet, it's now time for another round of the world's only Official Car Pundit Drinking Game. So, as I join "Maximum" Bob Lutz as the only other car guy to make it on The Report, what're tonight's rules?

UPDATE: I've just been told I literally have two lines. So make these rules count commentariat!

If anyone happened to be up at the ungodly hour of 7:00 AM, and happened to have "America's Business Channel" on, they'd have caught yours truly punditing his red-eyes off on CNBC's "On The Money" Squawk Box. The topic was the existentialist nature of the widening net of social control. OK, not really — it was the UAW-Chrysler mini-strike of course — didn't you read the post we dropped at like 5:00 AM today? So what was the highlight of the appearance? How about getting "Lamest. Strike. Ever." onto the air? It turns out the folks who normally do this post for me while I'm getting primped and my hair put in curlers when I've got a TV appearance apparently belong to one of the UAW locals who've gone on strike. Thus, I'm forced today to write this myself. I'll be on CNBC tonight at the top of the 7:00 EST hour to go On The Money with Melissa Francis on today's big news story. No, not Halo 3. The other big news story — the UAW strike against General Motors. And it looks like if the above name drop from CNBC's any indication, maybe Melissa will finally agree that a strike's a possibility. Not like I'll be saying "I told you so." Now, while I rush to figure out how to put on an IFB device on my own, you can get off the picket line and do your job — come up with some rules to tonight's drinking game. The only question we've got for Wert is: Fake bake much there? The only question we've got for you is: How many drinks was that?

<![CDATA[ Saying Goodbye To The German-American Hybrid ]]> With word today the Chrysler Group would no longer continue to be the 'merican side of the German-American hybrid, the folks who always have money on the mind have asked Wert to reprise his role as talking head this evening. In addition to the topic, the time's 7:20 PM EST, the place as always is CNBC's On The Money. Your job? That's simple — come up with some new rules for the only Official Car Pundit Drinking Game in all of the known universe. As a bonus, let's also come up with some new nicknames for the automaker formerly known as the 'merican side of the German-American hybrid.

<![CDATA[ Breaking Even: CNBC's Phil LeBeau "Causes" Accident In Front Of GM World Headquarters! ]]>

The message the General's giving on their earnings is that the NorAm operational net losses were only $46 million, an amount Rick Wagoner said this morning live on CNBC was "essentially breaking even." OK, that's a total load of crap — especially considering the automaker has sold more cars globally during the first quarter than ever before. Given that, one would assume they'd have to find a way to actually sell some cars here in NorAm to make some money — instead of producing 192,000 less — or else have a gameplan to when they're going to do that via their ever-running turnaround effort. But although Phil LeBeau's only sort of buying that spin, the bigger story is the little jam-up he may have just caused on Jefferson Avenue downtown a few minutes ago. As you can see, us Detroiters love CNBC so much we're willing to risk getting smashed up in order to gawk at pundits on the street live in front of a camera. And that's why I always talk indoors — less risk of injury to my fellow Metro Detroiters. I'm just trying to do my part.

<![CDATA[ How Many Drinks Was That? Wert Was Close Enough To Touch Melissa Francis ]]>

Immediately after coming off the air last night we got the low-down from Wert on his first in-studio on-air antics with the marvelous Melissa "Money Bunny" Francis. Here's what he had to say, you know, like a "behind-the-scenes" kind of thing:

1.) Melissa is VERY hot.
2.) Melissa is A LOT shorter than I am.
3.) The cameras move around like little robots.
4.) "On The Money" main-man Bill McCandless rides around on a "Cruzin Cooler Motorized Scooter."
5.) Did I mention Melissa is VERY hot.
6.) Hot women make me fumble punchlines and close my eyes to think so as not to fumble lines having nothing to do with 'punch.'
6.) The production staff moves VERY fast and they're VERY competent. They'd probably make good bloggers.
7.) If the DaimlerChrysler board of directors approves this Tracinda proposal, I'll eat my hat. Or I would if I wore one.
8.) There's something else I'll save for Monday — an addition to the drinking game that may involve a prize.
Now that we've got that debrief, and before the holiday weekend begins, let's answer the more important question — how many drinks was that?

<![CDATA[ Official Car Pundit Drinking Game: New York Auto Show Edition ]]> So Wert's in the city that's large, red and delicious, and he's just told us he'll be on the usual station speaking about — huffing tailpipes. No wait, we kid — sort of. He'll be offering up his best punditification on CNBC at 7:30 on "On The Money." The topic? Tailpipe emissions and the recent Supreme Court decision. What's that mean for us? Well, it means we've got to come up with some new rules. And as always, if you're confused, feel free to check out the full game in all its glory here.

<![CDATA[ The Official Car Pundit Drinking Game: We Love The "Money Bunnies," But We Miss The "Stock Stud" ]]> Dylan.jpgWe're sorry we're not using the normal OCPDG graphic this evening, but to tell you the truth, we kinda miss Dylan "Stock Stud" Ratigan — in a totally hetero man-love kind of way. The man's got an on-air gravitas that makes listening to financial news and views an interesting and appealing process. Yes, we know you don't have to really twist our arms to get us to watch the current On The Money "Money Bunnies," Melissa Francis and Margaret Brennan, but although they're both equally intelligent as they are totally foxy (Rowr!), we still miss the "Stock Stud." He's the only one we know that can equal out the level of cockiness Wert exudes in his auto pundit performances. But we digress, Dylan's moved out of the middle of the "Money block" and gone on to Times Square a land of milk and "Hunny"...and anyway, we're supposed to be talking about Wert, aren't we? He'll be talking hybrids tonight at 7:30 PM EST on CNBC's show that's always following on top of the money, and that means it's time for some new rules. And as always, if you're a bit lost, just take a trip back down memory lane to see all of our Official Car Pundit Drinking Game coverage.
