This is bullshit. I heard they were arresting everyone that hit pedestrians that day. Clearly, the NYPD is just trying to make up for budget shortfalls.

At least he got in trouble, unlike a CHP who mowed down a pair of bicyclists in Santa Clara last year.

Maybe this is what Ice-T was rappin' about:

I got my polo shirt on.

I got my driving gloves on.

    I got my drink on.

    This shit's been too long.

I got my twelve pack opened up.

I got my Aerosmith turned up.

I'm 'bout to polish some shots off.

I'm 'bout to dust some peds off.

Cop drunker, better you than me.

    Cop drunker, f**k professional courtesy!

Cop drunker, I know your family's grievin'

    (f**k 'em)

Cop drunker, but tonight we get even.

Growing up, I didn't realize that it was illegal to drink and drive. My dad was a cop, and I don't remember a single trip in the car after noon when he didn't have a can of Schmidt in hand. We were on a vacation once driving from Seattle to Las Vegas, and we were pulled over by NV State Patrol for speeding. My dad, with open beer can in the center console, showed the trooper his badge and was immediately waived on. He told me at the time this was a "professional courtesy." As I got older, I began to realize just how corrupt the whole thing was...

The way some of the cops around here come around with their hands out- it's unbelievable.

@leavethegun-takethecannoli: Really? I just kind of assumed that things had gotten better, but I guess it depends on where you're at and there will always be people in the system who like to abuse their authority.

Don't get me wrong, my dad did a lot of good, particularly when he was a detective, but the fact that he didn't kill someone while driving drunk (inlcuding his own kids in the car with him) is pure luck.

Ha! What an idiot. First off, you drink vodka mixed with a 5 hour energy shot to get real fucked up, but be alert at the dame time. And when you do hit the old guy, make sure you hit him at an angle so you kill him. Then dump his body in the Hudson, and you go to breakfast at Denny's. Grand Slam Time!

@bmoreDLJ: It annoys me because we just had a cop in Orange, Connecticut who killed two young kids, because he was speeding- for no reason. He tried to blame the "accident" on the kids- but another Officer who witnessed the incident said he was speeding and it was definitely his fault.

Scumbag/trying to place the blame on dead kids.

@leavethegun-takethecannoli: I heard about that story, being from Milford myself. However, the version I heard said the other car tried to turn left across the road in front of the cop, who was probably speeding. Though this is just from my parents, I haven't had a chance to read any official reports on the incident.

Also, when I initially read this headline, I thought the cops were trying to charge the pedestrian with drunk driving after getting hit. And I didnt give that interpretation a second pause, cause in my mind I almost expect NYPD to pull something like that.

@CorporateFelon: The car was turning, but apparently the officer's high rate of speed is the cause of the accident. He was coming back from a call in another town- and speeding for no reason.
