To all the whiners: If you don't want to see it, DON'T CLICK. Pretty simple, really. Just by way of example, do any of you get the Sunday paper? Do you read every article in every section? Do you write letters to the editor complaining about the sewing section because you don't sew? Probably not, so think of Jalopnik as your daily Sunday paper, full of lots of things that don't appeal to everyone, but every one of which appeals to someone. If it gets to the point where nothing appeals to you, start taking a different paper, I'm sure the editors will understand.

If it's got a car in there somewhere, it's fair game to be posted on Jalopnik. Do you need the editors to be your parents, or can we trust you to take some personal responsibility for what you watch?

Now that I've gotten that out: It's such a mix of emotions while watching that. It's sad for the dead pup, yet heartwarming for the "rescuing" pup.

@Plecostomus - Now with 20% more Algae!: BS...There was a story about the mother cat that went back into a burning building to save her kittens in NY...There are plenty of stories where cats have alerted owners to fires and such...Dogs don't have these areas cornered...i don't think a cat would go into a busy highway though...

@vr6john...now needs a job.: Lies, dogs have alerted owners to fires plenty and there are even weird instances of dogs doing stuff like dialing 911. How that happened is entirely a fluke, but it's been done.

i have to agree this is the type of thing to not show on jalopnik.and the person who filmed just stood there and watched? what if that was a child? im saddened by this and worry that we have all become so immune to the way some behave .is it me or has this site become for lack of a better word more crass.ive noted a lot of mean spirited attitude on here in the last several months and find myself wishing for the old jalopnik back oh well im probably a minority.

@wyatt_1st: Here's the thing. That was a stationary traffic camera, and it was recording the incident. Likely, the operator is in a control room somewhere and likely called the ambulance thing that showed up at the end, and therefore probably did all they could. We have a similar camera system equipped on many of the freeways here in Southern California.

@TBM-Fan: Yes, they do. I don't remember exactly where I saw it, but it was a picture of a flattened man, dried out like a sailrabbit on a back road, somewhere in Africa. Truck hit him and kept going, subsequent trucks finished rolling him out, nobody peeled him up and even the vultures wouldn't touch him after he'd dried to jerky.

@VicVegas84: All great points. Lets not also forget the insurance reasons. A friend of mine once swerved to miss a deer and hit the ditch and a few saplings, and his insurance denied his claim, wouldn't cover the tow bill, and increased his premium because he had an "at fault" accident on his record(in a no-fault insurance state, go figure) because the cops had to file a report when the tow truck got called out.

Moral of the story...don't swerve!

@citroen67_now with 30% more LHM: Your story has the ring of truth right up to "cops had to file a report when the tow truck got called out." I assume that your no-fault state is Michigan. I live in Michigan too, and have used tow trucks (even AAA dispatched ones) many times. Never had a cop show up and insist on making a report just because a tow truck was dispatched, though. I'll assume there's a bit more to this.

@Mike the Dog: Yes the state is MI. It was my fault for not elaborating further on the details. It is (in most cases) left up to the tow truck driver to alert the police if it is a situation that may impede traffic(such as a recovery that involves the blockage of one or more lanes). In this case, the accident happened in a rural area at night, and the car coudn't get back onto the road with its own power. Plus he was cited for careless driving to boot. Just simply a bad day for him.
