@Fat Tire: Yeah, sorry there doesn't seem to be a McLaren F1 time in there. Maybe some owner has a PayPal donate button for a record 'ring lap.
Also the translated German says "About three seconds faster than on 6 November 2005 record set by Michael Düchting on a Donkervoort D8 RS06" , which isn't listed at Wikipedia.
@skierpage: That Donkervoort is an odd duck. I knew they made a GT-style Lotus Seven, but didn't know they made this. Less than 1700 pounds with a heavily boosted 2-liter and short gearing, it's more like the Radical SR8.
Ultimately, only the ZR1 and the Skyline Spec V stand out at reasonably useful road cars.
Oh Lord! It's like someone took a regular Ring lap and played it back at high speed. If it had Yakety Sax in the background of the video, it would be perfect.
Just out of curiosity, what are the service requirements on a car like this? It looks like a racecar and is fast like a race car, so does it require service like a racecar?
@Van Sarockin, rogue trebuchet: I've never understood why nobody pays more attention to tires. They're the most important part of the handling equation. If the difference between so-called "Extreme Performance Summer" street tires and regular summer tires is as much as a second on a low-speed, 60-second autocross course, it's got to be on the order of ten to fifteen seconds on a course like the 'Ring. What's more, tires are the very definition of "wear item," and frequently the first thing a car owner will change from OEM spec on a car. So why the fuss if the 'Ring times aren't using factory tires? Just man up, slap some Potenza RE-11s on the thing, and go.
i have been fantasizing about this day since i laid eyes on the apollo. i'll raise a bitburger in appeciation of a fantastic car and the men and women behind it. cheers!

@Tyson: Sure, if your car is in the bracket for 'over $200k, less than 3" ground clearance, with a carbon fiber chin spoiler that looks like a razor blade' category.
@Van Sarockin, rogue trebuchet: I'll go with the $200, 3" of ground clearance (because the shocks are completely shot), and the plastic chin spoiler that's busy getting ground apart by curbs catagory. Unfortunately, I don't think they'll let me into their fancy races anyway.
@Tyson: Maybe they'll change their minds after the nice girl with the spikes finishes the wax job and accompanies you over there. They could just be misunderstood.

Although, "production" does seem a bit of a stretch. Maybe if they removed a zero from the end of the price first.
