    I'd expect GM to retaliate with a Corvette XFE (~4.5L LS V8, several hundred pounds in saved weight and a couple aero mods) or Porsche to strike back with the 911 TDi, but we all know it's not fuel-efficient if it's not a hybrid.

    This is not a good idea.
    Honda batted around this idea years ago when they first started working on an NSX replacement (pause for a moment of silence, please).


    The moment this goes to a track day, it'll get laughed at. The fully charged batteries will be a great help for the first 3/4 of a mile. Then, with every corner full of HARD braking, followed by WOT, the batteries and electric motor never get used, and do nothing but hold the machine back.


    The car instantly becomes a sports car for poseurs (read any 4000# convertible w/ an auto tranny). Nobody will touch it with a 10' pole. total failure.


    You want better mileage and acceleration? Make a total stripper option, 600 pounds *gasp* lighter.

    As silly as this is going to sound, it probably isn't going to be meant for the track. It's going to be meant for all of those people who bought a 350 or 370 because they wanted a car that looks cool and delivers decent on-road performance. I don't want to have to eat my words but if done correctly, this baby would probably sell quite well to that demographic. I'm sure they can grasp "efficient sports car". If they want track performance, that's what the NISMO variations are for.

    @unSonidodelSueño amores Cinco De Mayo: Actually you make sense. Most people buy flash cars to get laid and/or compensate. With the number of eco-friendly-mad girls around (many of them quite hot), it would probably be a good idea to own a hybrid sports coupe so to maximise your chances at the end of the night.

    I'm not going to make fun of this because it's probably an interesting step to take. But Honda are pretty good at what they do, and their consensus was that people don't want performance-boosting hybrids (RIP, Accord H). So while this one does achieve better economy numbers, my inner snark just sort of laughs at how it took this much effort to get back to 1970s Z-car efficiency.

    I doubt it will happen, but I'm open to the idea. I see no reason why not. If it works out well enough, it will encourage other manufacturers to do the same, which could make for some awesome semi-practical sports cars that get great mileage.


    Hybrid V8 Mustang or Camaro, anyone?
