That said, what Jalop wouldn't want this car for a more sporting option. It sounds about as pure as you can get at that price, being decked out to the threes. $30k. 332HP. 3200lbs. 3 pedals! While I can't see buying a new one over a sub-$20k used Z06, let me know when the lease returns start coming in...

Sorta', at least.
The dealbreaker here for me is this: Does the car encouarge you to break the law?
There are 'fast' cars. You can find them everywhere for reasonable prices, especially used. What I want to find is the car thats going to invite me into driving it hard because of the confidence it's offering me. You can't find that on a lot of 'fast' cars.
I hope this makes sense, it's just my experience with my old 04 Cobra left me bitter towards the notion of expensive 'fast' cars because it was such a stick in the mud to drive. Granted, the source of my incontent was my lack of skill to actually drive the car, but that poorly engineered beast sure wasn't helping my problems any. Your review makes the Z sound like the champion I need to befriend one day.
Or maybe just a used C5 will work...

That's what I was thinking. The funny thing is, the Z didn't even come to mind until these articles.

I wonder if my SR20 swapped 240SX would qualify for the cash for clunkers to go towards a new 370Z......?

I haven't had the chance to drive one yet but from the little bit I have been around it you could get used to the vision down falls and slight crampedness.
The real amazement of this car is the technology involved, the VVEL engine is something else with the valve lift being used instead of the throttle body to provide a more immediate response to throttle position. Along with that the syncro-rev match system while astounding at first is so simple that you wonder why no one had come up with it before.
All in all good work by Nissan, I'd take this over a GT-R just for the shear enjoyment per dollar ratio. (Not a refferance to Wes's failed math people)

Well, I have to replace the PT Cruiser with /something/.

As I said before, the 370 is almost certainly the better sports car. That doesn't mean the Mustang would be less fun to own or drive.
Also, it seems the 370's just a notch more expensive than the Mustang...more in the territory of a decked-out Camaro SS (which I would also consider but am currently not as enthused with).

I remember reading an article about the GT-R and 370Z development teams being very competitive to the point of hating each other. This is how enthusiast vehicle divisions needs to be.

Geez! Am I already in my quarter-life crisis and talking all kooky? Save me Jalops!
p.s: AND OH! I GOT A STAR!!!!!!!! That has to be worth atleast a million bucks if I sell it on eBay right?? I noticed something was different when I started noticing that all the comments I replied to started showing up that I "approved" them. WTH?
I am moving up in life I guess. I am leaving work early and am getting drunk to celebrate this honor. Cheers!

Granted, it's not new, but I still get more looks and compliments than any new GT (I assume...)
You could always go for a Bullitt too, they're getting cheap.
07/24/09
I've thought about Mustangs for a loooong time. I LOVE the GT500s and the Bullitts but I really think I want to try something different. I live in MI so different means "foreign." I will probably get a 'Stang anyways, but I want to really try something else.
The girl I am dating right now works for Nissan in MI, so I might just try for the employee discount.
p.s: I am a Ford fan boy and have interned for FMC in Dearborn as a student engineer.

As far as your car considerations:
It's not a "mid life crisis". You are looking at your "I have arrived" car. And good on you. My "I have arrived" car was a 2002 Explorer XLT V8. Loaded. I considered the Mustang, but wasn't quite ready for the insurance payments on it. If you're ready to make the insurance payments on a sports car, go for it. Also, look at a WRX STi (2009+) or something from Europe. I've actually seen more 350z and 370z than I thought I would in SE Michigan.

But I figure working my ass off for a BS and an MS degree from UofM without a lot (relatively) of loans allows me atleast a little treat right?
p.s: You might be right about the Z cars. They are surprisingly quite a few. Especially once yo go north of 9 mile.

BTW, I know this is a heady time for you, but watch your step around those Fleshbotters. They don't take prisoners.

Fact: A Toyota Prius will still retain 30mpg while being hooned to it's fullest. Hooning included drag racing and constant speeds of over 90mph.
07/24/09
@aSoundofSleep: actually, it only manages 26.2mpg
07/24/09
That's instant at 102. A Strolling Player's averaged 30 over a weekend of constant brushes with 107 (top speed), city driving, and drag racing.
But who's splitting hairs? That's still damn impressive.

This JMPG rating is fairly new isn't it? I like it. at the very least it's another data point, and helps put other milage calcs into better perspective.
With the Z you might also provide a little info on how long a set of tires (or a clutch) is likely to last, too.
