Please tell me that no one on Jalopnik would EVER seriously consider this car. LOL, for $20K (the price of the Spec V version), you can get a slightly used Mustang!
@SethEaston:
Apparently the love of cars on Jalop is much broader than you and could have ever guessed...why just yesteday people were praising the most recent Ford Thunderbird!
Sorry Jalopnik but I must complain...
I know the Sentra is a popular model and will probably sell well, but I'm getting tired of seeing these front-wheel-drive econo shit-boxes being reviewed with a level of enthusiasm (any level of enthusiasm) by your scribes. Stop it!
Now I know it's not your fault seeing though FWD shit-boxes is all that seems to be available in that market sector in your part of the world and your car companies are still telling you what you want rather than the other way round.
But you could at least make the effort to not make an effort...
...does that make sense?
The Rockford Fosgate unit has changed. They've place that storage drawer above the radio, which was only available on the base 2.0. I don't like how they kept the high beltline and those small, mostly useless side mirrors. Rear visibility is bad and that's a common trend on cars; I don't understand that.
Have they done anything to improve the handling and suspension?
Is it just me, or has every generation of Sentra since 1994 gotten progressively uglier, fatter, and more useless? This makes me want to live in Mexico so I can buy a Tsuru.
I bought a used Sentra for my sister when she was in school. It was exactly what she needed, rugged, simple dependable economical transportation. This one looks infinitely nicer. Sentra's were never to pretty girl at the party, but they did their job. This looks to follow the others. I'm not sure the price difference is now enough to keep people away from the Corollas and Civics and 3s.
This happens with all the video game systems after a few years. They make little tweaks to the system and drop the price to keep themselves relevant in the same market as the top-of-the-line new stuff.
(oops, tech-hating was last week. Sorry.)
@Tyson: That's what I'm saying, they added color but still had to drop the price because the HD stuff is out and there's no other way they could compete.
This iteration of the Sentra, in person, always struck me as very tall and dorky for its size. As I always say, there are certain cars that should only be available in 3-door and 5-door trim, not a sedan (Yaris, Sentra, Versa, even Mazda3, etc)
"If you can't make it better, at least drop the price."
I think a lot more auto companies should do this; if base model remains the exact same as the previous model year then the price should drop accordingly. It might only be a $500-$1000 decrease but it should help to stabilize sales as the model inevitably becomes long in the tooth.

Something has always amazed me about the Sentra: It is boring in EVERY STYLE REVISION. Sure, there have been good performers, but you could have removed the badges and used them in bank ads. I still get that feeling when I look at the newest generation, even though the Altima has a lot of similar design cues and I think it's beautiful.
It's amazing how much of a big deal proportions are.
What's all this about cost? It's cheaper? Cheaper than the Forte? Oh, nevermind.
