@Mopar_4_U: Well yes, but the Viper ACR beat the second time for the Zed-Arrrrr-One by, I think, 0.3 of a second, and it's a stripped-down race-bodied monster, whereas the ZR1 is a full production model. The Vette did all this with full leather seats, carpet, stereo equipment, etc etc.
For that kind of money, I could buy a nice 10-yr-old Supra Turbo which is about 4x more power than I'm ever likely to apply in real life, and a fixer-upper three-bedroom bungalow on a small lot north of town.
It would probably even have a garage to put the car into. So, pass.
How appropriate that you can now get the GTR in Ultimate Black Pearl, because you'd have to be drunker than Jack Sparrow to fork over 95K in doubloons. Yarrr, that be piracy!
The added lightness sounds pretty good. I predict that adding lightness will be a prevalent performance enhancement during the Carpocalypse (though mostly through de-contenting).
I expect that within a month of these being in showrooms, Porsche will put out a press release about how Nissan is cheating at exorbitant pricing, by showing the reciept of a Spec V they bought for significantly less.
Instead of 500 more hp than I need, and 300hp more than I'm ever likely to want (unless I'm towing something), can I instead have:
-100-150hp -a lightweight, tossable chassis -four doors -trunk space -decent economy. Now I know that none of these things come even close to the Nissan's raison d'etre, but in this world of increasingly finite resources, perhaps it would be a good idea to step away from exceedingly frivolous cars and concentrate on cars that are more responsible and still entertaining? Especially ones whose warranties do not hinge upon whether or not the launch control was used.
@Elhigh: Shhhhhhh!!!! Be Quiet! You know that this is a Motorhead Blog, saying things like "500 horsepower more than I need" will get you excommunicated!
@Elhigh: Haha. Good luck trying to put that fuel efficiency into actual result when cars are passing you by on the Mulsanne Straight in twice the speed.
@SlowMo: Bah! We all know that a Frogeye Sprite with 43 BHP (if you're lucky) is more fun than any 600hp beast in 90%* of all real-life driving situations. 600hp is just for Top Trumps bragging rights. Besides, I always thought that "280hp" had a good ring to it.
* = Not a real statistic, just a number grabbed out of the blue.
Best Car's rendering doesn't adhere to classic GT-R LM styling. The GT-R LM should be SMOOTH and wide and uncluttered with fancy scoops and crap. It should be a tasteful, 600HP, widebody GT-R. SMOOTH.

I'll have to wait until we know what the actual performance gains are until I call this a complete rip off.

Wasn't it the Viper ACR that performed the "posterior return" to both of these also rans?

You're kinda good at this game, aren't you?

I bet you can save 400# with those two things alone.

Horsepower is Nissan's primary marketing tool. In just about every segment, they have always strived to lead in bhp figures for bragging rights.
I'm not fundamentally against this, but it's superficial and, as you state, contrary to the public opinion tide these days.

Of course, only douches will be able to buy one.
