600hp is great - in a plane!

Instead of 500 more hp than I need, and 300hp more than I'm ever likely to want (unless I'm towing something), can I instead have:

-100-150hp
-a lightweight, tossable chassis
-four doors
-trunk space
-decent economy. Now I know that none of these things come even close to the Nissan's raison d'etre, but in this world of increasingly finite resources, perhaps it would be a good idea to step away from exceedingly frivolous cars and concentrate on cars that are more responsible and still entertaining? Especially ones whose warranties do not hinge upon whether or not the launch control was used.

Horsepower is Nissan's primary marketing tool. In just about every segment, they have always strived to lead in bhp figures for bragging rights.

I'm not fundamentally against this, but it's superficial and, as you state, contrary to the public opinion tide these days.

@SlowMo: Bah! We all know that a Frogeye Sprite with 43 BHP (if you're lucky) is more fun than any 600hp beast in 90%* of all real-life driving situations. 600hp is just for Top Trumps bragging rights. Besides, I always thought that "280hp" had a good ring to it.

Best Car's rendering doesn't adhere to classic GT-R LM styling. The GT-R LM should be SMOOTH and wide and uncluttered with fancy scoops and crap. It should be a tasteful, 600HP, widebody GT-R. SMOOTH.

Ugh.

Of course, only douches will be able to buy one.

I love my Dodges but seriously give your head a shake. A 600hp version will be more then enough to beet the ZR1 and the ACR. And the tranny issue. look a The fastest GTR out there right now COBB tuning thrashes thier car daily and they are runing the factory tranny. With no issues. Dont blame all the tranny problems on Nissan.

@General_Zad's_Chicken: Stud Beefpile's head is spinning at the moment, as Black Falcon Performance Cars spanked the 'Vette's 7:26 time in one try with three of their supercars. Chevy, of course, responded by sending the 'Vette back out a few days ago, on Oct 27, and pulling a 7:22.4, just marginally slower than the ACR's 7:22.1. Black Falcon seems confident they can beat that time, since all three of the cars that beat the 7:26 time had mechanical problems.

Soo much drama, so much fun. C'mon Nissan, let's see you take on the ACR, ZR1, Zonda, MC12 and Enzo. Just how tough are you?

Detroit builds 600hp cars and everyone calls them irrelevant.

600hp GT-R with a fancier transmission to break = irrelevant. It still won't beat the ZR1 or ACR so I don't get it.

@FuzzyPlushroom: Don't forget that Skylines as they were are known across the world for being tuner-friendly with power figures reaching over 1000bhp,as for looks,well that's down to the individual. I can say the GTR looks better in real life than in pictures.

@layabout: That's qquite literally opposite of what I was thinking. The current GT-R's not really tuner friendly, nor do GM V8's have problems developing 1000hp in capable hands, and I'd have to say even after seeing both in real life, I'd say GT-R is pig ugly compared to the ZR1.

@Parkington: It's still early days for tuning the new GT-R,i have no doubt it will be tuned,again as i said it's down to the individual on the looks front,i prefer the look of the GTR,but if it was my money i wouldn't buy either. Possibly the GT-R to make money on,as you can import GT-R's direct from Japan for £38k including all shipping costs & it will easily sell for £55k+.
