...so basically it's like the TRD Tacomas from 95-04, before they decided they needed to be 7/8ths of a full-size truck.

This vehicle is near the top of my purchase list.

You went off roading with Aggies? Brave.

Did you hear about the Aggie that drove his pickup into the lake?

His dog drowned while he tried to get the tailgate down.

You wouldn't need any extra suspension travel so a body lift and larger tires would suffice to make that a solid off road piece.

As an Albertan I feel compelled to love trucks of all shapes and sizes dispite a lack of any personal need or use for them. This love grows stronger for vehicals that have features and technology that I'd never use in any way such as this Nissan and its off road capability.

After reading this artical this truck just jumped into my top five list of trucks that I'll never need but want bad.

    Thanks Matt

    Great article Matt.

One more reminder to never, ever, buy an ex-press vehicle.

Practical enough for fairly-well-off weekend warriors to pick one up now, good enough for us proles to get one used several years down the line. I like this truck, Nissan. It nearly makes up for losing the practical small work truck. Nearly.

@Matt Hardigree: If it's built like a Toyota, you don't want any weight on the tailgate... or so I hear from some Tundra owners.

An extended-cab (not four-door) long-bed would be great, with the same wheelbase as this one and another couple inches of clearance.

I was thinking WTF about a corrosion failure going undetected in a closed-loop system like those for airbags. Then I read the press release, which clearly states the airbag warning light on the dash WILL illuminate, so the margin for safety is not too narrow. I personally wouldn't ignore my airbag light if it came on after the lamp test concludes.

@Charles_Barrett - Now with Variable-Valve Timing: Ignoring the airbag warning light probably depends on the age/value of the vehicle. Some of the ones from the 1990s are getting where the cost of fixing the airbag is more than the value of the vehicle. If the light means the airbag won't work, it really wouldn't worry me too much as long as the seatbelts are working fine. If it meant the airbag might go off randomly, that might be more of a problem.

well at least the airbags simply fail rather then spontaneously going off.

Apparently not the same sensors, however.
