It seems like F1GP is going through a bizarre stage at the moment. Some teams quitting (and/or talking of it), but some great historic marques like Mercedes Benz and Lotus getting back into the game.
It will be interesting to see what the "manufacturers" list looks like in a couple of years. #brawngp
@Doshu: Providing engines to MacLaren and Brawn, and owning 40% of MacLaren isn't being "in the game"?
Mercedes didn't like the fallout from the cheating scandal, or having all the Constructors points stripped for it. And Brawn needs money. Probably a very simple decision for Mercedes. #brawngp
@Van Sarockin, rogue trebuchet: I consider managing a team bearing your name to be a totally different level of involvement to just providing engines. There's a lot more money, work, reputation and risk involved when you're producing the whole car.
Even with just the car, there is more at risk. eg. Lotus will be risking more than Cosworth in their venture.
And didn't McLaren and Brawn pay money for those engines? I'm asking, because I don't know and assumed that would have been the case. #brawngp
@Doshu: But you're agreeing that Mercedes is deeply invested in the enterprise, and that they will be increasing that involvement.
I'm sure Kingfisher and Red Bull are passionate and involved in their teams, but I doubt just how much technical expertise and talent resides at corporate headquarters.
I believe that Mercedes is providing the engine to MacLaren at no cost. But, owning 40% of MacLaren means that any billing would be mainly an accounting matter, rather than an arms-length business transaction. Someone else might know the actual facts on this. #brawngp
@Van Sarockin, rogue trebuchet: I agree that they're deeply invested in F1. Still, it'll be good to see F1 cars competing as Mercedes Benz (and Lotus) cars. #brawngp
@bmoreDLJ: But here it is spelled BRAWN. Which signifies strength, muscles, etc.. All I'm saying is Brawn is a cool name almost like saying Strong GP. #brawngp
@Van Sarockin, rogue trebuchet: Your right. I kinda hoped you wouldn't remember that.
By the way I believe the quicker picker upper is bounty.
Those admen would be pissed if you associated that jingle to another product. #brawngp
Makes former team principal Jackie Stewart look like a bit of a piker, doesn't it?
It sounds like a lot of the issues around Button firming up a seat revolve around his salary. Considering that he gave up millions in order for his team to compete this past year, it seems rather cheap and mean spirited on Brawn and Mercedes part.
Button proved what he could do with a competitive car, and his last few races showed him passing cars in near-impossible situations. The guy has guts and talent, an he kept it together under immense pressure.
You'd think he's easily be worth what Hamilton, Alonso or Raikkonen can demand. #brawngp
I'm legitimately anxious over where Button is going to land. I want to see him running under Ross's expert eye against next season, but then again if he ends up at McLaren next to Lewis, it'll be an amazing pairing. And then in the back of my mind, there's also the scenario that I ran into more than once as a youth, not being able to decide on which girl to ask out and ultimately ending up with no one at all. Button wouldn't end up without a seat, would he? #brawngp

I will be honest, I've been more interested in F1 this year than in the last few years. Maybe F1 did need a bit of drama and excitement after all. At least for me. #brawngp
Sorry it's off-topic but I just got into my first car accident. No injuries, but my poor car... I feel like a part of me has died. Any jalop comfort? #brawngp
@skaycog: Yeah, I'm just really worried about the ramifications.
There were no injuries, damage was pretty minor to him but totally busted up my hood and bumper. I'm kinda scared of the premium increase too, I'm only 20. #brawngp
This must give Brawn GP the best record in F1. They've won the driver and constructor championships in every season they've competed in. Never defeated. Take that Ferrari! #brawngp
"whom he could not pass on the narrow circuit as the Brazilian deployed his speed-boosting Kers device in every corner"
I'm sure you guys are writing this to make it "dramatic journalism" and I'm sure you know that KERS (not Kers) is limited to 6.6(repeating) seconds of power. And by graphics on screen during the race, the drivers don't use it "in every corner". If they could use KERS in every corner, you would see every team using it. And they would probably attach the switch to the same as the throttle if it was unlimited.
@combat chuck: Mercedes has just fallen apart in engineering this year is how I understand it. I think it was Bahrain where Hamilton was openly talking about glad he was to get fifth.
@Jeb_Hoge: Pretty much everything you know from last year has been thrown out this season. BMW, Ferrari and McLaren all stink, and Brawn (don't call me Honda), Red Bull and Toyota are kicking butt.
It can really only be understood with visual documentation however:
