This won't happen, and with a car like the TDI Golf in existence, the Beetle is really redundant anyway. Consign it to history.

Of course, I think they should have killed it after 2005 instead of leaving us with a wheezy, inefficient car that appears to have driven between two giant sawblades.
(Disclaimer: I heart our '01.)

Damn it's ugly. I like that it was cute, but I hate having to say that the Beetle WAS cute. Can't it continue to be cute? This thing looks like the larval form of a 50s Fiat Multipla.

Instead invoking the wrath of Dr. Porsche's ghost, perhaps you'd consider re-making ANY of the following VW Beetle based products:
The type 3 fastback
The Karmann Ghia
The VW SP2
The Puma GTE (ok technically VW didn't manufacture it, but just look at it)
Any thing but this fugly neu Beetle?

I would love to see a new Karmann Ghia, and I think that VW would too. As far as I know, their plans for a small, mid-engined sports car are still on the table.
Does anyone know for sure?

Not this, for the love of all that is holy and sacred.

Oh, and KORS, you guys totally rendered a full-sized VW UP! And that vert looks like a Chrysler Sebring.

Maybe they could, if they were sold on the idea of retro, do something which harks back to all the agility, forward thinking and simplicity of a bygone era, whilst still looking contemporary, fast and desirable.
Maybe VW could come up with something which would set their image as innovators, in tune with the needs of the day, and setting trends for the future.
Maybe it could look like this.
Maybe it could drive like that, too.

The original GTi is magic because it's not loaded up with safety equipment.

The decision to renew the whole idea of the Beetle in such a dramatically retro form was an interesting one, as the New Beetle went so far retro that it simply didn't leave any room for design evolution, unlike other "retro rides" like the Camaro and Mustang, which while unashamedly retro, have enough modern design elements to them to grant a fair margin of growth flexibility in the design.
Chrysler had the same problem with the PT Cruiser as VW does with the New Beetle in my opinion.
