Honestly, these "character lines" are the modern-day equivalent of the bumpers on a '58-60 Lincoln.

The previous gen Z4 3.0si I had as a company car for 6 months, and the 2.5 I had before that were easily the greatest drivers cars I've experienced. Well, maybe something of Chapman stock is more track-worthy, but for a driving vacation / backroad frenzy around the British Isles in my view the Z4 was peerless.
The SLK 280 I've been running feels somewhat obese and gormless after the BMW, and while the folding hardtop is a shame, if it's what customers "want" and it prevents BMW dropping the Z4, I'm all for it.
I shall reserve judgement until a new Z4M or Club Sport comes along. That should separate the Barbers from the Junior Stylists....

but i understand the miata hardtop only weighs 70 lb more then the soft version... suppose BMW just got bored

Even without driving it or sitting in it.
Stupid name calling, the car may well be grown up to be proper and good sportscar, a bit like SLK 2 is much better car than first version.

@th1nwhiteduke: No,not defensive. Although Auto Insider was probably just joking about it being a hairdressers car,there are some people that genuinely think that about certain cars without having ever driven them.

BMW could have saved a lot of money by simply applying all development money spend for this worthless thing into a better 5 Series, or a better 3 Series, or even a fun to drive 1 Series. Ah, who cares anyway, BMW's are for pricks anyway.
