2010 Subaru Legacy, Outback: Like The Concept, But Toned-Down |

Yup, AWD with increased ground clearance = truck. The mind-bending NHTSA rules are ##17 here, it's all approach angles and lobbying. NHTSA has proposed changing the light truck standard to incorporate square footage (see #14), interesting background.
If you think the Legacy/Outback confusion is bad, pity the Outback Sport, which is just an Impreza trim option, but Subaru USA never liked the "Impreza" name. For years Subaru put the Outback Sport in the rugged tough brochures alongside the Outbacks, even though none of the accessories or options match. Now the WRX is cool, so that's become a model separate from the other Imprezas. I'm sure there are three full-time marketing people at Subaru USA rearranging this every year.

Love. It's what makes a Subaru a Subaru. However, if you don't bring us this:
then I will be forced to kill you with broken bottles and dance on your grave singing "Glory Hallelluia".

Much like Rachel you knew in middle school, the Legacy got hot.

Subaru will always be making cars that appeal to the conservative minded buyer... or to the schizophrenic

That is my only complaint about Subarus. The five-speed manual isn't a big deal, but like GM, the continued use of a four-speed transmission was a poor decision.
But, in their defense, they are damn near bulletproof transmissions.

The 4EAT only comes on the base models. Any H6 model has a 5EAT.
It's 245 hp from 3.0 liters, not 3.6, with wallops of torque where you need it.

See, Unlike GM, Chrysler and Ford, Subaru embraces their aftermarket suppliers. They encourage the market of addon's and Upgrades, unlike the Dumbass 3 who brought it in house to control their licensing, and instead just priced the their own aftermarket offerings out of the realm of cost effectiveness, which used to be the entire point of Modding cars, inexpensive power, and getting the lost power back out of your stock internals.
Add to the fact that today, GM cars require an Engineering degree just to get the plastic bits off, well, their design doesn't exactly encourage the shade tree types working on their cars. Another aspect of construction that Subaru embraces. Thats why we call them "Legos" jokingly. I can grab parts of the first Impreza to hit these shores in 1993 and find usable parts for my car that is 9 years newer.
Also bet that the internals on this New Legacy will be largely the same internals found on the Current Legacy and Impreza, meaning, all their parts will be the same, just like they pretty much are now.
And most aftermarket parts that fit one Subaru will typically fit them all.
So, you can take your low HP, torque-less Boxers and make them scream with a couple hundred dollars in Mods.

If you are unaware of the extensive aftermarket support and cooperation on the part of GM, Ford, and Chrysler, then all I can really say is that you, sir, need a re-education in the cult of cars.

If they were competitive at all in this arena, the D3 wouldn't have lost so much share with the younger people they needed to bring in to keep their sales that instead went to Honda, Toyota, and Subaru.

I'd love to jump into the Subaru LOVE pond, but the turbo engine needs to get better mileage. A 6 speed would certainly help.

The aftermarket for Mustangs alone is as big as the aftermarket of every Japanese car combined, to say nothing of the Camaro.

But are they actually bringing this back to us in non-Outback form?
