I have to say I've got some beef with the statement, "Part of that awesome will come from the under-development 1.6 liter, direct injection, turbocharged EcoBoost inline-four, a 175 HP, 180 lb-ft version of the 365 HP twin turbo in the Taurus SHO."
NO, it is NOT a 175HP version of the 365HP TWIN TURBO V6.
It can borrow technologies from the 365hp twin turbo V6, but it's not a version of it-- it's a completely different motor. The only thing it has in common is being called 'ecoboost' and being direct injected and turbocharged.
The syntax just doesn't make sense.

Don't mind me, I was the kid always correcting his parents for saying "get in the car" when they were driving a full-size van.
1.6T seems a bit torque-deprived for a truck. I'm not a Fx50 zombie, but a little displacement never hurt something that's supposed to haul things or 'froad.
Eco-boost is what you get at Jamba Juice when they put Saw grass + Caffeine in your shake. Stop calling direct injection with a turbo Eco. It's not Eco. It just gets better mileage.
I'm so glad the Ranger is surviving. I'm actually seriously thinking of buying one for the sole purpose of keeping it in my back lot to haul shit that won't fit in the Corrado... or is needed to repair the Corrado. I've had three Rangers, and loved every one. I don't need a big, beastly, monster of a pickup. I don't need a six-litre V8 and 500 horses. I'm not planning on towing my apartment building anytime soon, and a 1.8T engine block fits just as well in a Ranger as it does in an F150.
@strllng plyr: I know, it kinda pains me to say it, but I have to admit, it was a nice ride. Chrome-on-black with the baseball-glove leather interior. I'm not used to trucks, so the bit of suspension-hop when going over frost-heaves or bridge approaches were a bit disconcerting, but otherwise it was a pretty nice trip. It's big, powerful, comfortable, and reasonable on fuel. Its fuel consumption was about the same as the Corrado on a similar trip -- albeit the Tundra was going quite a bit slower than I would have. So Tundra @ 120 = Corrado @ 150. Still not bad.
My opinion might also be biased due to the fact that the driver was pretty cute.
@Deartháir: Ah, your spontaneous Banff road trip? If so, true on both counts.
Also, you really gotta quit with those funny metric numbers. You double it and add 30 to convert, right? I had no idea a Corrado could do 330 miles an hour...!
@scottcom36 has Weekday DT's, Weekend OD's: I'd be okay with that, so long as the pistons were forged. A push me/pull you Metro truck? It gets Jalop points just for being a seriously f'ed up idea.
I wish I could buy a simple, compact truck with a really fuel efficient diesel (that's 30mpg at a minimum) and a stick (6speed please) with NO amenities other than a/c and a cd/mp3 player.
It doesn't have to have rich Corinthian leather.
It doesn't have to tow 8 billion lbs.
It doesn't need power heated everything.
It doesn't need 12 milllion cubic ft. cargo capacity.
All it needs is to be cheap and meet those terrifyingly easy goals outlined above.
They could call it the "Lone Ranger"......... or .... how about "Ranger Stripper" (embrace our pornified culture-it can't be any worse than associating with Toby Keith.)

You'd've thought that the last time there was an updated Ranger in the global market they'd've brought it, you know, here, where people buy pickups.

Still... the Tundra was nice...

I'm staggered! ♥!

Heck, those are nearly V8 numbers from 15 years ago. Surely that's enough to motivate a small truck with a towing capacity under 5k#.
