2009 VW Jetta TDI Sedan, Sportwagen Eligible For $1,300 Federal Tax Credit

While no official announcement has been made by either VW or the Feds, word has it the new 2009 VW Jetta TDI will be eligible for a $1,300 alternative-fuel federal tax credit. A leaked dealer release also shows that the new Jetta oilburners will be EPA rated at 29 MPG city/40 MPG highway, but that Volkswagen got them third-party certified at 38 MPG in the city and 44 MPG on the highway — a 24% jump over the official numbers. We'd guess those are stick-shift ratings, but we won't know until we see the final word out of VW. In the meantime, check out the dealer release below the jump. More »

New 303 HP Porsche Cayman S Sport Leaks Onto Net

The first photo we've seen of the upcoming 2010 Porsche Cayman S Sport has already made its way to the web, we're assuming from the pages of some Euro buff book by way of a fan-forum and an enthusiast's scanner. Details are still sketchy, but word has it the uprated Cayman will have eight extra horsepower, raising the total to 303, and feature the Porsche Active Stability Management system along with a suspension that sits about four tenths of an inch lower. The orange-and-black paint scheme in the pictured car appears vaguely reminiscent of the 911 GT3 RS, but we'll have to wait and see if that's the sole color offered or whether Porsche gives us additional hues from which to choose. 2010 Chevy Camaro: From Concept To Reality

The most striking feature of the unveil of the new Camaro was how strikingly similar the 2010 Chevy Camaro is to the Camaro Concept. We enlisted the help of GM designer Jeff Perkins, who worked extensively on the new muscle car, to help us with the magnifying glass and determine what those changes were. Hit the jump as Jeff guides us through sort of virtual walk-around, pointing out each of the individual tweaks and changes the designers made to bring the concept to production. More »

Pagani Zonda And Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Palling Around

Derek D and the boys at Fast Lane Daily have scored an interesting pic of the next-gen Pagani Zonda buddying up with the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black for high-altitude testing in Colorado. This, of course, sets up rumors the new Zonda will have the same 6-liter V12 expected in the Blackest of SL's, instead of the anticipated V8. We're pretty sure nobody in the supercar world will complain about a frenetic 600 HP V12 making noise in the new Pagani. Check out the Fast Lane Daily video below the fold for details, and the shout-out to yesterday's shocking BMW F1 news. More »

Automakers spend lots of time and money designing, redesigning and test marketing their new vehicles to make certain they'll capture a potential buyer's imagination. It doesn't always work. Video: New Camaro Playing Sweet V8-Powered Music On Main Street

No, you didn't read that wrong. Our sources tell us those idling sounds you hear in the above video received anonymously from one of our tipsters (who we're still waiting for an e-mail back from!) aren't coming from a plain-Jane direct-inject 3.6-liter V6 engine. Nope, apparently the new Chevy Camaro painted hot rod red shown to journalists in Metro Detroit last night had either the big 6.2-liter LS3 V8 and its whopping 422 HP. That's enough power to take the Camaro SS around Germany's famed Nurburgring with a time of 8:20. How do we know it was the LS3 and not the new Active Fuel Managed L99 V8 with the same displacement? Well, this particular Camaro's got a manual transmission. So yes friends, this is the 2010 Chevy Camaro SS — dressed up as a 2010 Chevy Camaro RS. Yeah baby, it's a sleeper! Nice. Also, see if you can spot Jalopnik's fearless leader for some bonus points.

Mercury To Become Ford's Saturn, Jill Wagner Celebrates

According to The New York Times, Ford will be converting three of its North American plants from trucks to cars, in part to produce European designs for sale in the US market. Their sources claim six unnamed Euro models will make the transoceanic leap, and Mercury, which was assumed dead by means of product starvation, will receive the bulk of this new small car influx. Is the 2010 Camaro A Home Run, Strike Out Or Double Off-The-Wall?

After yesterday's musclecargasm over the 2010 Chevy Camaro, it's probably a good time to take a deep breath and decide whether or not we like it. Your Jalopnik crew is torn between those that see the car's design as sharp and progressive, those of us who believes it's unnecessary retroism and one of us who thinks it wouldn't look good with 14" wire rims. There are those among us that see the car as a great performer for a new era, while others see it as safe replacement for a car they didn't particularly like in the first place. Does it rock? Does it suck? Does it both rock and suck? More »

Lotus Boss Says New, High-Performance Mid-Engined Supercar Coming In 2010

Moments after unveiling the Lotus Evora, Lotus Group CEO Mike Kimberley announced the brand would continue its expansion with two more new platforms. This means Lotus will be shifting to a three-platform model, with the Elise and Europa on the smallest chassis, the Evora occupying the second platform and a new, high-performance mid-engined supercar on a third, expected to debut in 2010. To top it off, Kimberly stated all three platforms would be refreshed or debuted within the next five years. More »

2010 Chevrolet Camaro Official Pics And Press Release

Here are the official details and press photos of the 2010 Chevy Camaro, which has become a bit of an afterthought given the giant friday leak and the Camaro live blog. 2009 Acura TL Caught In Natural Habitat, The Golf Course

We've already seen the big-nosed front end reveal of the 2009 Acura TL, but Flickr user buckeye01 managed to snag a beautiful close-up set of pics while out at the links. We finally get an up-close look at the rear of the new TL and also a peek inside. Unfortunately, all we see in the cabin is some shapely dash elements, and perforated leather seats. At the back we see a pair of dual-quad exhaust tips, huuuuuge bumper mounted reflectors, tasteful tail lights and a nice use of chrome. Does that make this the 2009 Acura TL Type-S?

First Driving Video Of The New Chevy Camaro!

Well, first driving video of the production version of the 2010 Chevy Camaro, anyway. Sure, there's been two-and-a-half years of spy photos, videos and what have you, but here's B-Roll of the real deal. It goes like a nice Chianti with the leaked photos revealed on Friday, some fava beans and the live reveal you'll see here tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 PM. Sure, we wish there were some sounds of the new Chevy Camaro to go along with the video. Unfortunately, some silly site* we liberated this GM PR video from (its from an 800-lb consumer site with the inside line on how to get video from Chevy) decided to do a voice over instead of giving enthusiasts the chance to really here that Camaro purr. Bad consumer site, bad! Whatever. Anyway, hit the jump for our galleries on the new muscle car from the General.

2010 Ford Mustang Leads Pony Parade At Road America

A heavily camouflaged 2010 Ford Mustang took to the track on "Ford Mustang Day" during the Road America festivities this weekend in the land of cheese and onions called Wisconsin. Ford's calling it a special public "debut" of the 2010 Mustang, which served as the pace car for the vintage racing field during the weekend's races. We're told the leather and fishnets it's sporting are its "special 'camo' package." Special? Package? Here we thought it was just to keep Ford design secrets safe. Now Ford's got us hoping this "special package" will become an actual for-purchase package for the new muscular pony car. But we doubt that dream will ever become a reality. What is a reality is Ford's trying desperately to blunt the huge wave of press for the 2010 Chevy Camaro accidentally revealed on Friday. Oh yes, and also to blunt the somewhat smaller wave of press generated by our review of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8. We hope. OK, probably not.

The New Chevy Camaro In A Skittles-Like Rainbow Of Colors, What's Your Favorite?

Although we've already seen the 2010 Chevy Camaro revealed in three colors, the crazy kids over at CarScoop have decided the new Chevy Camaro RS needs to be seen in more than just plain-Jane colors like red, yellow and silver. They've Photoshopped a veritable Skittles-like rainbow of colorgasmic flavors for the new Chevy Camaro. Check out the front ends over here, then head on over to CarScoop to check out the hot rear action. Although we''re partial to pink on the new mullet-mobile, what's your favorite flavor? Better question — anyone want to take a few moments in P-shop themselves to mock up what colors and decals you'd drop atop Chevy's new muscle car? We'll do a post showing off the best tomorrow afternoon before the official unveiling at 4:00 PM EST.
