It's not unexpected, but we've got to ask whether spending the money it takes to get the new Chevy Camaro into the status of official pace car was worth it given it's pretty much the most anticipated car in the history of muscle cars. It's not like people attending or watching the Daytona 500 won't already know it's coming. Shoot, they've probably memorized all the performance stats on it too. [Camaro5]

<![CDATA[Chevy-Sponsored Camaro Black Heading For SEMA Show Floor]]> Chevy has released a single teaser-style image of their 2008 SEMA show-bound Camaro Black, described only as "a dark and mysterious interpreta." We're pretty sure they meant "interpretation" but ran into character limitations in their imaging software. Regardless, the Camaro Black show car actually looks to be a gunmetal gray based on the photo and appears decked out with a sinister-looking body kit and the requisite SEMA monster alloy wheels shod in low-profile rubber. The red glow from the headlights may also indicate some sort of LED illumination kit, but what you see is all we know at this point; we'll either get a constant dribble of teasers a-la 2010 Mustang or just bring you the goods from the Vegas show floor in two weeks.

<![CDATA[GM Performance Parts Tricking Out New Camaro For SEMA Spectacle]]> Since the 2010 Chevy Camaro is the official vehicle of the 2008 SEMA show, GM has been hard at work readying special cars to show off new goodies from GM Performance Parts. Working with the GM Design Team on some "interesting twists," the builds of the hopped-up Camaros have been chronicled in these new teaser videos. We're not sure if the SEMA cars will be anything like Bumblebee's new look or the red work in progress we've seen before, but at least they won't be the standard Camaro that we've all seen plenty of already. Video after the jump.

<![CDATA[2010 Camaro SS, 2009 Corvette ZR1 Play Together On Track In An Orgy Of Horsepower]]> This is the first time we've seen both the 2010 Camaro SS and the 2009 Corvette ZR1 sharing track time, though the video leaves us a bit confused. Yes, the two look great together, and the V8 soundtrack isn't too bad either...except we only get to hear each of the cars sing solo. We were expecting to hear a roaring duet of muscle, but the audio has suspiciously been cut from those scenes. And, is it just us, or have some portions of the video been blatantly sped up? <![CDATA[Torque Meter Toast For Production Chevy Camaro Gauge Cluster]]> One of the more intriguing features of the concept version of the new Chevy Camaro's interior was the "torque meter" on the four-gauge instrument cluster. Unfortunately, according to Popular Mechanics and now confirmed in a photo taken by Xeper, a forum fan-boy over at GMInsideNews, it's a feature that won't be making it from concept to 2010 Chevy Camaro production accessory.

Popular Mechanics' Ben Stewart made the claim first in his review of the pre-production Camaro concept last month:

"The optional console mount gauges on Camaros we've seen before have included a "torque meter." This, we thought, was an odd choice for this valuable real estate. Well, apparently the engineers thought so too. Both prototypes had transmission temperature gauges in place of the torque meter. [Engineering Program Manager Anthony] McCormack says the torque meter is history."

We can see from the shot up top the four gauges in the cluster are now oil pressure, oil temperature, transmission temperature and what appears to be a voltometer. All along we'd assumed the torque meter was basically just a measurement of RPM and acceleration — just like many OBDII-plug-in tools — but by actually including it as a gauge was to us, a very cool idea. Unfortunately, it appears that cool idea won't be making it all the way to production. [Popular Mechanics, GMInsideNews]

<![CDATA[Extra Flavor, Extra Fun: Twin Black Camaros Caught On Camera]]> Looks like the 2010 Chevy Camaro dressed in black travels like Doublemint gum. These twin black Chevys were caught down in Tampa continuing the bow-tied brand's moist-weather testing. Again, we're just happy we don't have to see them in "p***y magnet" Velocity yellow again. No new Camaro should ever come in that color — unless it's gussied-up with go faster stripes on the hood and top for a Camaro-cameo in a movie by Michael Bay.

<![CDATA[2010 Chevy Camaro Caught Wearing Velocity Yellow]]> It may work on the new 2008 Corvette, but on the 2010 Chevy Camaro, we're not so sure Canary "Velocity Yellow" works for the new muscular mullet-mobile. Maybe if it had a couple of black go-faster stripes on the hood. Then we'd have a Bumblebee edition — and yes, we'd be all over that one. But plain yellow? Umm, no. So — we've now seen the new Camaro in black, white and zebra — and now "Velocity Yellow." By the way — we'd like to point out that "Velocity" yellow is like "P***y Magnet" yellow, except faster. GM, please get a red tester on the road ASAP so we can make fun of the full range of colors. Well, except for black. We like black — because you know what they say about once you go black. That's right, you never go white — in Camaro colors. Full spy report below the jump.

So far we've all seen the Camaro in black, and in white, and let's not forget those initial shots of the car's black-and-white-striped theme. But our latest look at a prototype parked in a tree-lined holding pen delves a little deeper into the Camaro's color palette. This time we have captured a Camaro wearing what appears to be the same Velocity Yellow tintcoat offered on the 2008 Corvette.
