16" and 17" hoosiers are quite a bit cheaper than their counterparts, especially when you need a new set every year, which you should with a car like this. 19's would force you out of your vacation home faster than you can say "soft market." Actually, most road race tires are quite a bit lighter than street tires, too.
This car had me and my mates picking our jaws from the floor after its release. It was outrageous, it was astounding, it was epic. To a bunch of high-schoolers, this was the dream.
I only just understood the reason for the exorbitant price of the SLR a few days ago. It must be heck of a job to try to make a car this phallic with Pfizer, Eli Lilly and Bayer fixing the price of those ED pills so high!
If Mercedes wouldn't have gotten their grubby hands in the design process we could have one hell of a track car. And if Mclaren hadn't, um, had anything to do with anything, we probably would have ended up with the SLS?

It's a shame, with all this weight saving work, whenever I've seen a pared-down sportster (eg 430CS) it's always had a fat sack of shit behind the wheel. All that weight saving work carried out by messrs Porsche, Ferrari etc. is totally neutered when Bob Tillingsley, CEO of Associated Floor Coverings (PLC) swings his lardy ass into the hotseat and sends rivulets of sweat flowing into the alcantara.
These guys could get a better track time out of their standard Boxsters if they omitted that second slice of cake every once in a while.
Hear, hear on the smaller wheels! When we track-ified our Volvo Amazon, we actually downsized from the 15" wheels to 14". Lots of wheel does not equal lots of grip, necessarily, and its actually easier to drive a car with lots of rubber than one with rubber bands around the wheels. Plus there's the whole unsprung mass argument. 17" wheels would be perfect on this car, and would look significantly less douchey, too.

We've had a lovely visit, but all good things must come to an end.
Goodbye to a classy car.
