At the rate the auction is going, you could pick up a passable 57 and 59 for the money. The real deals. This is just grotesque. If people started breeding cats with dog heads or v.v. would you want one? Some things just ain't nach-rull.
I think the Easy-rods look better. Which disgusts me.
I hate the rear end, especially. Those tails are like the worst of any 50's car, and definitely the ugliest. Even the Mercury Comet's "cross-eyed chinaman" taillights looked better. No, I did not come up with the "cross-eyed chinaman" thing, and yes, I realize it's offensive. I just don't give a fuck, and it's historically correct.
@Plecostomus will never win COTD... but has a: And once again, completely hideous wheel/rim choice for the style of car they are going with. Jesus. Not that this kit car is a pretty sight to begin with.
@thechoop: Oh, the picture I posted? Yeah, those are the STOCK wheels from the thunderbird they started with, the sad thing being they may have started with a 1989-1992 Thunderbird SC, as those are early SC wheels. You'd think they could've been bothered to get a set of era-appropriate wheels for their gay easyrod.
The Thunderbird easyrods are abominable, but apparently they've now started doing easyrods on last-gen F-bodies, which aren't nearly so abominable.
OK, I'm going to start off by saying this isn't a troll. Just my honest feelings.
This car looks great. I do not want it, though. It's basically a glorified kit car. Sure, someone took the time to put together a "kit" that looks and, presumably, functions well. But it is still a kit. To me, this is no different than a high quality Fauxrrari kit. This thing screams POSEUR to me. If I saw someone driving this on the road I would think, "That car looks good, but that guy is trying waaaaaay too hard."
Should Chevy do a retro-inspired 'Vette from the factory? Probably not. The aerodynamics probably wouldn't work out. So, I can kind of understand why there is a market for something like this. However, I'm not sold.
Especially at $75k. You can get a Z06 for that kind of money.
When people talk about remaking classic cars, this is what I think of. Something that looks like it should be in the era it is designed from with current technology.
I've seen these re-skinned Vettes, and while they're much, much, MUCH more attractive than the newer Vettes they're based on, I still don't really quite see all the appeal. Now, if someone were to start offering kits that would, say, re-skin a new Mustang with the body of an old Mustang, say mid-60's style, maybe with a few design tweaks...
More attractive in an art-deco way, I suppose, but I prefer the lines of the standard Vette. In time, they will come to be seen as timeless, much as the third-gens are starting to become perceived.
I like it okay, I'd be happy if I won it on a gam show. I think most of Italy's recent design offerings have been pretty generic and fall quite short of what the past has given us. But then again, I like Opel GTs and malaise era Matador Coupes too.
@jasper911: You're right on the money. All of the design houses have been struggling, and some have folded altogether. Not exactly a wellspring of stylistic innovation right now.
And even though it's a carbon composite body I would think you could get a better panel gap fit. Looks what you'd see on a '70s TVR.

And yes, I completely agree with you. The "poseur" line in particular made me laugh.

It was at 75k with 3 bidders.
It's very cool, but I would rather have an updated Eleanor over this.

But they need to do something different with the 'Vette roofline...
...and, seriously, ditch the Hyundai Elantra styleline.
