I would imagine that reports of gray/grey cars being stolen are probably higher in the U.K. if only because the fog and rainy weather makes them easier to misplace...

Silver, in the late 70s and early 80s, was the universal color of German Luxury. Then the Japanese emulated it, and finally everyone started doing it.

It continues to this day, though I believe gold/champagne is the current best-seller in the states.

Because it's nice to go 4 months without a wash and the car still looks 90% clean.

Not sure if gray includes silver, but the study might suggest that owners of gray/silver cars find them depressing in the long room and are less likely to care for them.

I bet if you were to roll back to, say, 1983, you would find the same result about brown cars.

How about beige/taupe/gold? I think that would be the clear winner in 'Murka.

@FuzzyPlushroom: Dear god... Silver actually I think is #1 here too.

This makes me think about I've become bitter as of late and totally have the "Fucking car companies pandering to people who treat the wonderful automobile as a fucking appliance!!" reaction to car commercials now...

Alas, Audi has soul in theirs still. Many thanks to you kind peoples.

Gray sounds so..well..gray. Dull. Boring. No spark.

We need a more marketroid-type name for grey. A few suggestions:

    Autumn Smogmist

    Detroit Malaise

    Dirty Snow

Clay Pipe (actually used by Kaiser-Frazer)

Forget flat tires and batteries. I bet the calls are mostly due to losing one's grey car in the car park when the fog or rain sets in. "Shit, it was here a minute ago"

@layabout: Yeah. That's exactly what I was thinking. More grey cars on the road, more grey cars need AA.

I mean, this study is completely useless.

What do the British think they are? The Germans?!

@Parkington: The study says, there's more BLUE cars:

"With more blue cars on Britain's roads than any other colour - over 7 million registered - they are nearly 15% less likely to call out a breakdown vehicle than their grey-hued counterparts."

These studies always seem like they're brought to you by the homework project for the local community college Excel 101 course, given Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 to 8:30pm.

It's not even data mining. It's data dirt-kicking.
