What a beautiful location, just stunning. But might be best to remove the cars so they can either be restored or harvested for usable parts. In an age where folks will rebuild a 'genuine' car from the one remaining original lug nut, there should be enough of interest here.

As for the pollution, there's probably plenty of gas, oil, brake fluid, antifreeze, asbestos, and miscellaneous heavy metals on or in the ground to give local environmental authorities conniptions. Paving over the land usually isn't so much about keeping contaminants from getting into the soil, as it is about keeping stuff already in the soil from being moved into the water supply by rains and snows seeping into the groundwater and making the contaminants migrate downhill.

I may just steal some of these photos for my holiday cards...

    Three thoughts.

First, some of these look like underwater shots-they could hardly be any more encrusted.

Second, I think in the still of the night by the full moon you would hear and possibly see some very unusual things.

Third, someone at least save all the shiny bits!

It's all crap, no matter where it is located, no matter what language is used to describe it.

So, if the Dutch live in Holland, who lives in the Netherlands? And what's the deal with all the dikes?

Due to all the CH's (CH= Confoederatio Helvetica), I would say that this is indeed in Switzerland. Which is ok, Suisse is a really lovely country, and that yard is just chock full o' automotive awesomeness.

If the Swiss government would ignore it's anti-car tendencies for a second and realize how much of a boost this place could be for tourism, everybody would be happy.

They could make it like the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens of auto-dom.

Too far gone for restoration? For shame! I don't believe we recognize this concept around these here parts. Anything with an Auto Union or BMW badge on it probably has a fanatic somewhere who would love to rebuild it from little more than a window crank and trunk latch.

Aside from the PCH-ness of this these look better than half the pickups I see rolling around the salted roads of Central WI.

@kleinlowe: Yeah, I agree. Hovewer, note that it isn't a bmw-bagde. It is a Emw (!)-bagde, which means that the car was produced between 1945 and 1950 at bmws Eisenach-plant. Freakin rare.

You know what they need to do instead? Cut some dirt paths, put up a couple of benches, charge for admission, and turn the junkyard into an outdoor sculpture park. Get a grant from some national artist foundation and make it happen.
