    @Nayrlladnar: The lack of any federally-mandated safety and emissions control equipment. I'm sure there's a clause in the purchase agreement about never attempting to register it for road use, and the non-standard VIN makes getting a road-use title all but impossible. Not that someone won't eventually try and probably succeed, though.

    Well, of course I want it. I just don't know why. Okay, I do know why, but it still wouldn't make any sense. I can't justify a race only car. I want to be able to drive any of my cars on the street. Legally (ish)

    I'm really surprised that the car seems to have power locks, cruise control, heat and the stock tach in the dash. I figured the first three would be useless and unnecessary weight in a race car, and the fourth left out due to the high-mounted racing tach.

    @russell_s: Well, with a 400 HP mustang convertible fully dressed interior and accessories, street tires, and my first time doing formal drag racing I managed a quarter in 13.54 at 104.87. That's probably pretty close if not a tad pessimistic.

    @Mad_Science: I've also wondered that quite a few times, and just decided to go on the assumption that it actually IS Rick Astley. After the Macy's Day Parade, he's proved he easily has an awesome enough sense of humour that he'd fit in well at Jalopnik.

    @Mike the Dog: Speaking of that, awhile back I wandered off Jalop onto Gawker or Consumerist or another of the cousins--there was a discussion about vehicles and two people started wondering what kind of car was in the picture. After a few exchanges, one poster said, "Let's stop, we're turning into Jalopnik."

    So of course I said what you just said, "You say that like it's a bad thing."

    And there was dead silence, broken by an occasional cricket.

    You can get it with a 6 speed manual or a THREE speed auto?


    I guess for drag racing, the auto is the way to go and they removed the upper 1-3 gears the transmission originally had to save weight. I suppose nobody will be cruising down the drag strip in overdrive to save gas...

    @petersterncan: I'd bet it's just a beefed-up C6 transmission.


    I'd also bet that they had to buy them from an aftermarket supplier like TCI. Ironic, dontcha think?
