The EB110 was always a mystery to me as a kid. It looked cool and had world-beating specs, yet no one but me (in my little world) seemed to covet it. My school chums (I was 11 in '91) were all about the Ferraris and Lambos, but hadn't even heard of Bugatti. I can't blame them, though. There were no posters of it in the bookstore, it was never in the movies (please correct me here), there was no Micro Machine EB110. In fact, I think I first learned about it from from a Motor Trend daily calendar, where it was just one more obscure car used to fill up a day page.
As a result, it's perhaps the most mythical supercar out there in my mind.
I would say the same about the XJ220, except I actually saw and touched one of those at a concours show a few years back.
@YankBoffin: I agree. This car has always held a special place for me.
But there IS a micro machine of it!: http://cgi.ebay.com/Micro-Machines-~-Bugatti-EB110-~-MINT_W0QQitemZ280373982305QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090719?IMSfp=TL090719153001r28426
Oh noes! That looks like the even more exclusive SS model.
"Five pre-production prototypes with aluminum chassis were built, followed by eight with composite chassis. Following these, it is believed that only 95 GT and 31 SS production models were constructed.
In 1992, a lighter and more powerful model with 592 hp (441 kW; 600 PS) at 8000 rpm, the EB110 SS (SuperSport) was introduced. This car was capable of 216 mph (348 km/h) and 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds."
@eb110americana: Yep, the speed holes on the B-pillar and the wheels give it away. Alas, it's a very early example of a composite chassis, which means this will most likely not buff out.
It's so rare, though, someone might actually build a new chassis for the parts.
@brandegee: Speed Holes! That had never even occurred to me... I'm currently working on a 87th scale model of the EB110 GT, which I am trying to convert into an SS. I need to find the color code for the Bug Blue.
It wasn't an event for supercar enthusiasts, it was an F1 demonstration, and these fools were just a part of, erm, sideshow for that. The event is called Bavaria Moscow City Racing, look it up.
@Alphamazing: Bugatti isn't even in the menu options on KBB.
A quick search did find this, though: http://www.vast.com/cars/used-for-sale-Bugatti.Eb-110/location-La-Crescent--MN
The fact that someone is listing this car in an online classified ad, though, makes me wonder. At auction, I suspect these things are worth far more than about $330k.
It is the rarer Sport version(check those elliptical vents in the B/C pillar),so I hope they rebuild it.The carbonfibre tubs on those are pretty strong so it all comes down to the usual expense vs value. One thing's for sure ,.....it won't buff right out.
The video didn't really capture the moment of impact, and was low res from a fair distance, so it didn't look too bad (other than the missing right rear wheel). The pictures tell a different story. Ouch.
I still don't think that it is beyond repair, but the repair bill is likely to equal the GDP of some small countries. This poor Bugatti may well become an organ donor so others may live on.
I was a big fan of the EB110 when it came out. While that fondness probably had something to do with the stellar performance figures, the somewhat quirky styling spoke to me as well.
Years on, I still have a love for the EB110, even though the bulk of my '90s supercar love is reserved for the much maligned XJ220. Please don't show us any XJ220 snuff films.
It's incredible how he could hit the wall in a track that wide. From what I could see, at some point he just went full left. Maybe there was some hot unexpected over steering action going on.
@Syrax: I was wondering that myself. I guess if he late apexed that nice wide corner and got on the power to early it could have sent him into that wall.
If those four turbos aren't all sequential there could be a fun power band that got the best of him.
@mr_dude: They are not sequential. After 5000RPM you're sent from mundane to warp in no time. You can see it in the video. Sorry, no subtitles in the beginning but that's not important. The real action starts at 1:20
Moscow- Not quite. I'd either freeze my balls off or get them cut off by some orginized Russian thugs. Or both. How about Monaco? Plenty of Russians there, and rich people, and it's warm!
@Schm wishes he could bring back the funny. .: yeah, thing is Russia seems to be the only place where the authorities not only close the roads for you to break about every single rule, but they give you a M-B DRIVING POLICE ESCORT!!

Anyone know the estimated retail value on this thing? I think the MSRP on it was $500,000, but has it appreciated or depreciated since then?
