150,000 miles is pretty damned good, actually.

All cars are designed to last 150K miles*(1.2-1.5)safety factor

I am not impressed. They can charge me a healthy price if I know they've built the car with the intent of sending me off, knowing I'll be back in 20 years to buy the next one.

Now don't flame me, I know a lot of you guys are serious gearheads who believe there's no such thing as too much power. And that's okay...for you.
But I'm perfectly happy with less. If I had a Citroen 2CV with its mighty 29hp twin, I'd be satisfied. It beats walking.
So in that vein, could I have V6 power and I4 economy? Or I4 power and V2 economy? Can we tease 150hp out of an engine when I need it for getting the trailer and firewood rolling, and 50+mpg out of my truck the rest of the time?
Imagine how much smaller the engine bay could be. You could pare a couple of feet off the nose of a compact pickup, add a foot (or be still my heart, two feet!) of length back onto the carbo bed, and still have a compact, city-friendly parking-lot nimble package.

Wasting a bunch of money to offer a manual transmission option that no one in this segment will buy would damn to financial ruin.
On the other hand, focusing n what the core segment buyers want and have a strongly-established pattern of buying is smart.

That would have been on fun SOB to try to drive. With that much weight under the hood, would the rear wheels have touched the ground???
