To show my solidarity with .357 I managed to get myself banned from blood copy yesterday, if you see him tell him to check out the hearse thread over there.
My initial reaction was Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. Holy hell thats alot of money for a car even if it is electric. Then I calm down and remember way back when DVD players came to market. A thousand bucks for the latest and greatest technology? You bet! Alot of people bought them. Blu-ray? Same thing. So a $47000 electric car? Meh I still give it a WTF.
@RLJ676-LS3 Commuter Car - for the environment: Oddly, the Prius appears to start at ~$21k in Japan. However, I am assuming that this is the price: 2,050,000円, which potentially increases to 3,270,000円, which wo uld be a bit over $33k.
Of course, I do not read Japanese. I am merely pretending that I can.
@engineerd: Neither. It'll be the Farad, since they'll use a bunch of those $500 stereo ultra-capacitors to store up the juice for some super-speedy 0-100km/hr and 1000 meter runs.
64 HP also seems like quite a bit. They guys doing Geo Metro EV conversions typically use about half that much power, and a lead-acid laden Metro tips the scales at not many pounds fewer than this little insect.
2400 lbs...crap, that's what my Volvo Amazon weighs!
@jodark: And, with my BMW-mandatory Blutooth earpiece on, polo collar flipped up, and douchbag-type aviators on, I can get a TON more pussy than some dude drivin' his 'lectric Mitsu - especially one that looks like that.
Even at 10 bucks a gallon, you'll be buying a lot of fuel for that Honda Jazz before breaking even. And I'd wager the Jazz is a bit more fun and practical.
And people are bitching about the price of the Volt? That is a ridiculously high price for a car that small, as you could easily purchase an Insight and about six years worth of gas for that price.
The color is gawdawful. That said, can we shave a few hundred pounds off this little rascal by, oh I don't know, hogging out all those heavy batteries and installing a nice little turbodiesel? I know the Japanese make beaucoups handsome li'l turbodiesels, many of which make enough power to drive the MiEV at freeway speeds. You'd have some crazy huge fuel mileage, instant infrastructural support, treehugger acceptability if you sell it with a full tank of biodiesel, and at least one immediate sale: me.
My round-trip commute is about 90 miles a day, sharing the car with my wife. That kind of regular use will destroy EV batteries pretty fast. Make it a diesel and this car could be everything I'm looking for in a fuel-sipping commuter.

Now I understand why it starts with an i.

Pretty sure the Turbo 660CC is efficient enough for them to keep their blender, and I'll walk away $35k more efficient.

How does this figure compare to an American selling price, as it is clearly outrageously expensive at $47K.
