"That's the hope." Yes it is, indeed. That's about all we have nowadays, isn't it? Well done, Ray. Smooth, polished, expert-like.

I gotta give Ray credit, he looks and sounds very good on TV. He comes across as very professional, and really seems like an expert on the industry.

Of course, we all know better.

Fess up though, Ray. Rock517's right, isn't he? You really weren't wearing any pants.

    I love that it says "NEWS ALERT" at the bottom of the news ticker, it's like;

"Holy Shit, theres some news going on!!!"

    Love it.

    LOVE IT I say.

    It's great.

And that's all I have to say on the matter.

I've been so blind! It's been the UAW's fault all the time.

The UAW designed crummy SUVs and jammed them down the throat of the US car buying public. They're the ones hooked up with the petroleum companies dictating the cost of oil.

Man, I'm glad somebody finally shed some light on this subject.

@jduffy13: Well, to end-around your logic, if it weren't for the insane cost structure of overpaid employees, the companies would have been a lot more free to explore lower-margin alternatives to trucks and SUVs.

But that would assume ideal leadership. Hahahahaha!

@The Name's Ash78, Housewares: And would have the ability to close plants and layoff workers when demand for a given vehicle dried up.

And, they'd be able to pursue vehicles with lower profit margins on account of the lower labor costs.

@jduffy13: Actually, the bizarre world of Big Three/Union dynamics, required the automakers to certify that they were going to use certain plants to build certain cars years and years before they were even going to do so, ensuring 'job security' for the UAW, even when half the time, THEY HAD NO IDEA that they were going to even NEED that car, or production capacity. So, YES, they DID.

In reply to How Many Drinks Was That? Wert Discusses Ford's Capital Ideas
Ford capitalized on the capital market by getting their capital on before going to the Capitol and asking for additional capital from Capitol Hill which it turned out wasn't such a capital idea and now they need to cap it all and get back to what they do best, capitalizing on a weak capital market by moving strategic capital assets into stronger yield opportunities so they don't have to capitulate to their debt holders or make another trip to. . . whoa, now I am drunk.

Is it just me, or is she kinda shouting at Ray?

The whole conversation had the feel of

Ms Lee: "TELL ME SOMETHING I ALREADY KNOW!"

    Ray: "Um um um: Capitol"

Ms Lee: "TELL ME SOMETHING NO ONE COULD KNOW!"

Ray: [shifty eyes] "I have no idea."

Ms Lee: "I'M JUST GOING TO SAY WHAT I WANT, HELP ME WRAP THIS THING UP"

    Ray: [long blink] "Yes ma'am"

How about the UAW allow their employers to withhold any raises until their actual worker wages catch up with market value and/or inflation-adjusted value?

That should buy the Big 3 another half-century of wage freezes.
