I was actually inspired enough - and procrastinating other things enough - to make a cool Photoshop of the above as Grant Wood's American Gothic... but instead I experienced epic fail...
@FstrPssycw: That's me at the wheel of an Econoline diesel van, delivering tropical fish for an importer. Welcome to the Bush I Recession, recent college grad!
I'm working on an "I, Fish Driver" piece for murileemartin.com, which (I swear) will actually have some real content one of these days.
@Murilee Martin: Amazing. That photograph is ageless, timeless, and (with the exclusion of the English writing on the box and the sign outside the van) not terribly location-specific.
Also, you are the rare individual that is able to rock the styles of old-man cool without looking pretentious. What I'm saying is, there's nothing ironic about that beard and doo-rag combo.
Also, you kind of look like Michael McDonald in one of those pics.
@eggwich del fiero: Only the fact that I grew up in a Navy town has saved me from being completely covered by homemade tattoos applied at age 20. Civilians in Navy towns don't want to look like sailors, hence most Alamedans my age are reasonably ink-free.
Those are some great pictures. Its strange, because my high tech digital camera can't take pictures while driving that well. Granted, its a cheap-o Olympus 8mp that I bought on a budget.
I was hoping to see vintage Ford Tempo or Mercury Topaz goodness. I just love seeing videos or pictures of the 1980s with T/T's hanging around in the background.
I'm still rocking a Canon AE-1! And by rocking, I mean it sits on top of my closet, but still, that camera's capability still exceeds my limited skills.
@eggwich del fiero: I still have the AE-1, but I haven't used it for a few years. You could hammer nails with that thing.
Sold off my darkroom crap years ago, so not much film photography for me these days (other than stereo slide pairs, which don't work so well on a computer monitor)>
@Murilee Martin: You should totally try though. Can include the instructions: 1. Center images on your computer screen. 2. Hold face six inches away from screen. 3. Stare at the center dot. 4. Go all crosseyed to make the two side dots line up. 5. Make appointment with optometrist as your eyeballs get stuck in weird positions.
Of course I'm one of those people that could actually make out the hidden image in those "magic eyes" thingies.

I figure I'll either:
A) Wind my way into/over the hills to a secluded beach.
B) End up on a dead-end road in some dude's pig farm
C) End of on a dead-end road at a secret government installation*.
*disguised as some dude's pig farm.

And that's why we love you.
