My bigger question is about the I-8 configuration itself: Why isn't this used anywhere anymore. Is it just becuase the V8 is more compact? Or is the V8 also better balanced?
the I-8 to me is just such a cool idea. Put it in a big fastback with a long nose.
It's so unconventional now. I would just love to see car makers start making things for the sake of being cool again.

The I-8 is great for low-engine-speed smoothness and power (great in the 30s, when 5800 rpm was screaming) but they require a lot of extra machinery to keep the long crank from vibrating the engine to death. This is probably the biggest reason why we haven't seen a "true" V-16 road car since the 1930s.
