KBB Predicts Highest Resale Value Cars, Pats Super Bowl

The folks over at Kelley Blue Book have announced the ten vehicles they predict will have the best resale value over the next five years in each category. Not surprisingly, the Corvette Z06 makes the list for "high performance vehicle" as there's no high privilege charge attached to buying a new one. They predict you should be able to get 50% of what you paid back in five years on the Vette. The full list below the jump:

Movin' Very Slowly: Hypermiling

When we had our old Acura Legend, we were addicted to its fuel-economy display. We generally averaged around 21 mpg, which included a 33-mile Walnut Creek-to-San Francisco commute that was 2/3 open freeway and 1/3 brutal congestion (hello, MacArthur Maze and Bay Bridge). On a trip from Portland back down the East Bay, we were running low on gasoline coming down out of the Cascades. The meter showed that we were gaining miles to empty, prompting our friend Brett to exclaim, "This is the best car ever! It actually makes gas!" Wayne Gedes also got hooked on eking fuel economy out of an Acura — in this case, his wife's MDX. More »

From Fukui to You: More on Honda's Diesels, Turbos

Honda's CEO, Takeo "The First Person to Call Me Dr. F Loses an Eye" Fukui says the company is working up a clean diesel V6 that will likely power the Honda Pilot and Acura MDX, AutoWeek reports. The prospective V6 is the second of Honda's new diesel engines to come to light, the first being a 2.2-liter four set to arrive in 2009, potentially in the Civic and CRV. In the same interview Fukui also said the company's recent move to turbocharge its new RDX may trickle down to Honda brand products, which may finally vindicate the kids with boost gauges sprouting from their Civics' A-pillars like weird, analog fruit. Embarg-Uh-Oed! AutoWeek Breaks Honda/Acura Embargo, Spews MDX Pics Across The Web!

We feel like AutoWeek must not need to worry about those "embargo"-things, it's like they don't seem to apply to the folks with the once-a-week web updates. Like with the GMT-900 pickups last month and now with these pics of the Honda MDX. Of course what do we know, maybe AutoWeek went to the bathroom when the embargo date flashed across the screen at the Dearborn MDX launch event, but we figure hey, if no one's clamping down on the long lead folks — it must mean anyone can do it, right? Click the jump for the pictures and the link — you know you wanna — all the cool kids are doing it. More »

Spy Photos: 2008 Acura MDX

Spies busted a production model successor to the MD-X concept — shown in New York earlier this year — during hot-weather testing in the Mojave. From the shots, it appears the company's pulling out all the style stops: flared fenders a la S-Class? Check. Spanky new grille shape? Check. Third row of seats? Check. V8? Hey, don't get ahead of yourselves. The company says it's sticking with a V6, despite its competitor's eights. Will their gamble on customers' aversion to gas guzzling pay dividends? We'll see next year. More »

Diesel: The Honda Hybrid For Big Cars

Honda's doing the dirty deed in lieu of hybrids and moving to the not-as-clean-as-unleaded diesel in the automaker's minivans and SUV's starting with the Odyssey minivan and Acura MDX SUV in the US market by as soon as 2009. Honda's President Takeo Fukui has been looking at hybrids in Honda's smaller vehicles and to mimic their success in Europe with diesel by providing those same offerings in larger vehicles in the US. Auto analysts note as a possible stumbling block the rather negative reputation diesel has here in the states. Oh, Honda also plans on offering diesels in Japan — but since Japan has ultra-cool advanced diesel there, it's become more readily accepted. Why can't we get the ultra-cool advanced diesel here, huh? A N-SeXy New Image For Acura?

Acura dropped three new vehicles, two into their line-up and one concept, today in New York including the "show-stopping world debut of the MD-X Concept SUV" pictured above. But, the really interesting news out of the Honda-lux brand is the potential for some racing cross-ties for the Acura NSX. Ya see, Acura's racing forward to enter the Le Mans Series in 2007 with a factory prototype, making it the first motorsports program for Acura. That means a lot of things for Acura (Honda), but one of the biggest potential positives from a motorsports tie-in would be the added cache produced for the as-yet-undetermined soon-to-be-forthcoming NSX. We'll be watching, we'll be waiting, and oh yes, we'll pro'lly be excited. More »

Acura to Show off New SUV Concept in New York

Acura's celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and the cake looks to be in the shape of a new-generation SUV. Execs at the Honda brand announced it would be unveiling a concept version of its MDX luxury ute at the New York auto show next month, and released two sketches indicating what such a creature might look like. From the renderings, the concept appears to share a more aggressive shape with the RDX concept introduced in Detroit. They're not saying when the production model will arrive, but expect it in late 2006. The 2007 RDX will launch this summer. More »
