    Just cause it's got some minor burns, doesn't make it unrestorable.

    @tony-e30: Good luck buying a couple of brake disks for less than the same amount of money as an entire LeMons field.

    But I'd cry when the judges exercise their right to buy that car for $500. IIRC?

    In peace may this McLaren rest,

    For in my heart, it is the best,

    A cool million, it was the dearest,

    Two forty one, it was the fastest,

    It accelerates with a bull's zest,

    Motivated by the V12 in its nest,

    Hundred made, forever the rarest,

    Pray , never another one go west.

    What sort of total jackhole nincompoop doesn't keep a fire extinguisher in the car?

    @beercheck:

    The 99.9% of the population who don't drive cars with a tendency to spontaneously combust. Seriously, for $2 million, you'd think it might not catch fire. I'm not familiar with any car that comes with a fire extinguisher. Maybe all cars should come with a fire extinguisher, gas mask, taser, life vest, parachute, and a set of Jaws of Life in the trunk ... just in case.

    @Beldrueger: So....you don't have a fire extinguisher, I take it. Get one.

    Few years ago, I watched a teenager in a sedan have a front right blowout on the highway about 200 yards in front of me. She over corrected and stabbed the brakes, heaving the car to the left and into the grass median. It eventually rolled 1-1/2 times, ending on its roof. I and two other drivers got there quickly, and while they were helping the driver and two passengers out of the car (seatbelts, baby: no injuries whatsoever), I was able to put out the fire from a ruptured brake line before it got any worse.

    $20, and 12"x4" worth of space, well spent.

    I'll take a wheel and maybe a brake rotor. It should only cost as much as my car is worth.

    For $2,000,000, I would have imagined that it comes with a fire extinguisher. I even keep one in my old Pontiac just in case...

    @Chris Wisniewski: For $2 million it should have a built-in fir suppression system.

    For the record, I believe all F1s came with a fire extinguisher. I'm guessing it either happened all too quickly or the owner was not about to risk skin to save F1.

    I'm sure this car will hit the road again. Sort of like a Vette, (a Vette is never totaled less it is completely steamrolled) only more so.

    @Flathead Smith: That's because a 'vette is body on frame rather than carbon fiber.

    They didn't total this one for no reason. It's unfixable, is my guess.

    @imag: Well, it isn't completely unfixable. They could probably take the window glass and a few interior bits, and maybe the engine block and move them into a new carbon fiber chassis, but the reason its a total loss is that basically every single structural component of the car has to be replaced.

    @NewbiusMaximus: The chassis of the F1 is basically one big piece of Carbon Fiber. While CF is light and strong but the tiniest little damage and you've got to scrap the whole piece.

    That said, this will be repaired.

    OK, maybe I wasn't clear. When I said, "Kill it! Kill it with fire!" the "it" I was referring to was this:

    Not a McLaren F1. Sure, the engines are in roughly the same place, but they are completely different. I assure you.

    Now you owe me a 10 second car.
