Although the MC12's still behind the Dodge Viper ACR, let's not ruin their day by pointing that out.

In the same day, with the same driver, the MC12 also beat a Ferrari Enzo, Koenigsegg CCX, Pagani Zonda F Clubsport and Porsche Carrera GT. The cars are owned by one guy who, we're guessing, probably lost $1 billion of net worth this week and now only has a mere few billion left to spare. To fairly test the vehicles against each other they enlisted the support of American Le Mans Series racer Marc Basseng for a story soon to appear in evo magazine. All we know is this must make you feel pretty good if you're one of the 49 other people that own an MC12 here in the US. [Source: Maserati]

<![CDATA[Edo Maserati MC12 Corsa]]> If you've got Krugerrands enough to give King Midas a case of the wobblies, and you want a GT1 racecar to take shopping, call Edo Competition. Never one to shrink from a high-buck project, Edo created a tuner version of the Maserati MC12 Corsa. That's the $1.7 million, track-only version of Maserati's Enzo-based halo GT car built for homologation's sake, the lightweight Maserati MC12 Corsa. Edo's futzed with the suspension, exhaust and braking systems, applied a new tire and wheel package, and says it's getting approval for its Corsa to be street legal. Sure it'll be awesome, as such reckless disregard for convention sometimes is, though Maserati purists will likely tape pictures of the Halloween-orange racer to their dart boards.

Press Release:

Introduction of the edo MC12 Corsa

* Sport suspension with nose lift function
* Specially designed high-flow exhaust system
* New high-performance brake system
* New tire & wheel package
* Road-legal

During last year's FIA GT championship Maserati drove their competitors into the ground with the MC12 GT1 (which already spawned the MC12). On the occasion of the overall victory, Maserati introduced the limited edition (12 units) MC12 Corsa.

The Über-Maserati weighs nearly 400 kg (880 lbs) less than the base MC12 (1,150 instead of 1,531 kg [2530 lbs instead of 3368 lbs]). This corresponds to a power-to-weight ratio of 1.5 kg / hp (3.36 lb / hp). With 755 hp and 740 Nm (546 ft-lb) of torque, the Corsa will run circles around the regular MC12 (632 hp).

edo competition does not shy away from extreme sports cars such as this one; instead it gives them finishing touches! Consequently a special suspension system developed by edo competition and manufactured by KW was fitted. The independently adjustable compression and rebound damping permits truly individual suspension setups. The unique system, with its three different adjustments, allows for low-speed compression damping characteristics to be altered while the high-speed settings, having a strong influence on ride-quality, remain constant. True racing technology for the road! Additionally the nose lift function available on the regular MC12 is carried over to avoid front and underbody damage.

Engine-wise, edo competition leaves the 755 hp-strong MC12 Corsa untouched. However, the 6.0-liter V12 now announces its power through a newly developed edo competition high-flow exhaust system - and it does so with a soundtrack guaranteed to induce goose bumps! The sports exhaust system with electronically controlled butterfly valves provides visual cues to the MC12 Corsa's power thanks to dual exhaust tips, each with a diameter of 100 mm (4 in). edo competition put a strong emphasis on quality during its construction. The muffler and exhaust tips are made from durable V2A stainless steel. And, not to be overlooked: a remote control to adjust the sound intensity has been installed!

For better cold braking properties during road use, edo competition employed a ceramic composite high-performance brake system with 396 mm (15.6 in) rotors in the front and 360 mm (14.2 in) rotors in the rear along with special brake pads at both ends.

edo competition had newly developed forged wheels (in black) custom made for the edo MC12 Corsa. On the front axle they're of size 10 J x 19 and on the rear axle of size 13 J x 20. The wheels employed by edo competition are shod with 265/35 ZR19 (front) and 335/30 ZR20 (rear) tires.

An official approval for road service is in preparation so that this unique edo MC12 can also be admired outside of the race track.

<![CDATA[Edo Competition's Maserati MC12 at Hockenheimring]]>

Edo Competition's juiced Maserati MC12 is about as close to a street-legal Le Mans car you can get for less than an oil tanker filled with Krugerrands (or is that more?). Actually, Edo's tuner proves what can be done when money is no object, which is to say a race-ready weekend sports car that's impractical for anything but being flogged on the Hockenheimring. And in this video, that's exactly what the Edo bunch does to a pre-paint prototype. At a top speed of 242 mph, it's not the fastest, but it's definitely got a certain presence.

<![CDATA[Bologna Show: Maserati MC12 Corse Debuts]]>

Maserati's answer to the Ferrari Enzo Fxx, the MC12 Corse rolled into the sunlight for the first time at the Bologna auto show yesterday. The severely limited-edition model is based on the MC12 GT1 racer, which took the Spa 24 Hours in 2005 and 2006 and several FIA titles in both years. The Corse model gets a major boost in horsepower over the base model, to 755 hp, from a mere 600 in the MC12. And while its racer cousin gets a manual sequential gearbox, the Corse gets Maserati's electro-hydraulic Cambiocorsa (as well as a passenger seat). The price is the same in all markets, the company says, — that is 1,000,000 Euros (around $1.3 million). It'll be available (that's a relative term, of course) starting in December 2006, ahead of Wall Street's holiday bonus season in early 2007, followed by All Hoonage Eve, which takes place in Westport, Connecticut around April.

Dude, being a sheik kinda seems as if it's the business. Harems, all the oil one can slather upon oneself, warm weather, clothes that never go out of style, hanging with T.E. Lawrence, and oh, most importantly, a whole shiek-sized garageload of exotic iron. Or, in Sheik Hamad bin Hamdan of Abu Dhabi's case, aluminum and carbon fiber. [Thanks to Mohammed for the pics.]

<![CDATA[MC12 Spotted On the Road in Canada]]>

The Enzo's big, less-prestigious brother was spotted on a Canadian road by reader Jon. He comments, "Saw this MC12 on the highway in between Toronto and Barrie (HWY 400). It was on Friday which was a holiday weekend here. This is the main road to cottage country. Not sure why this guy was driving this car to the cottage..." Well, it's not like he's gonna drive it to work at the Elsinore Brewery...

<![CDATA[The Maserati MC12 Corsa in a Parking Garage — in Monaco]]>

One of the Gawkerettes, much to our considerable and unrelenting jealousy, spent Sunday in Monaco checking out the Grand Prix (go, go Alonso) from a yacht in the Mediterranean. While there, she (by the grace of Bill the parking attendant) captured a shot of the just-revealed Maserati MC12 Corsa — the track-only, limited-edition version of the Enzo-based MC12 — as it sat waiting for, well, we're not exactly sure what. Special thanks go to Mark Cumming of for use of the phone cam.

<![CDATA[Let the Maserati Owners Have Some: The MC12 Corsa]]>

Loyal Maserati owners stood by and watched as loyal (and super-rich) Ferrari customers ponied up their Amex Centurion cards for one of a few special Enzo Fxx models. Considering the Maserati MC12 is based on the Enzo, it'd seem logical that the Prancing Horse's bretheren would get a similar limited-edition ultra-supercar. That day is nigh. It's the MC12 Corsa, and it's way beyond exclusive (only 12 will be built). Like the Fxx, the 757-horsepower Corsa won't be street legal, meaning it's merely a $1.2 million toy for track days. Really expensive track days.

<![CDATA[Special-Edition Maserati GranSport to Debut in Geneva]]>

Maserati's honoring its 2005 FIA GT Manufacturer's Cup win with a limited-edition version of the GranSport — an homage to the company's $800,000 sports car, the MC12. Set to appear at the Geneva Motor Show, the Maserati GranSport "Sucka" MC Victory gets carbon fiber front and rear spoilers and side skirting that generate more downforce at high speeds, as well as a more direct and precise steering setup, said to edge the coupe's driving characteristics closer to that of the MC12 supercar. Inside, carbon fiber and Alcantra trimming and carbon fiber racing seats add two zeros to the price refinement.

<![CDATA[How Does the Maserati MC12 Compare to Its Cousin Enzo?]]>

Motor Trend has an extensive profile on Maserati's MC12 supercar, with an eye toward the similarities and differences between the Maserati and the Ferrari Enzo, with which the MC12 shares mechanicals. (Plus, there's an exclusive analogy referring to the man-drag Julie Andrews in "Victor Victoria." Don't ask.) One of the most important differences is that, unlike the Enzo, you can still buy one (if you don't drive it in the US), for $800,000 in supercarbux.
