    This is actually a brilliant marketing move from an oil company. All they have to do is make an electric car that is so cheap everyone will seriously consider it as an alternative to traditional vehicles, but make it suck so everyone will come crawling back bitching and moaning about how much EVs suck. They get to don a halo both for introducing an EV in the first place, and then double up when they "rescue" everyone from the unfathomable pit of sucketry.

    I'm not much on conspiracy theories, nor do I care about electric cars, but do you really think ExxonMobil was being serious with a car that had a top speed of 30 mph. It sounds as though they were attempting to kill it from the start.

    @Flathead Smith: The 30 mph limit is imposed because it has not yet passed safety for freeway use. They expect it to be passed and in production (without the limiter) by 2011.

    @Flathead Smith: It's not ExxonMobile's car, they're just providing the technology. The car is limited to 30 MPH because the gov hasn't certified it yet. It's currently undergoing homologation.
