I really don't think Matt Lauer has the journalistic skills to actually write those questions he asked. You could tell he no real knowledge of what he was asking because he could not retort.
@Jo Schmo: With all of Matt's fearless probing, I'm pretty sure that Mulally got the thrust of what Matt was pumping, and was smart enough not to lead him on.
I caught some of this before I left for work this morning. All of Lauer's questions were about GM, Chrysler and bailouts. Mulally isn't working for GM, Chrysler or the government (or is that redundant?), so why should he talk about them?
@FlakJack: I think even a whirring dustbuster can outsmart Mr. Lauer. He's eye candy for the overweight housewives that watch The today Show. God knows there is no news on that INFOTAINMENT monstrosity.
Every day on the J-Nik we see cars costing $40k and much more - ones that go 182 miles an hour, ones that have 700+ horsepower, ones that have paint jobs that cost more than the Volt for chrissakes. But despite the fact that they are completely outrageous, impractical, wasteful, vain cars they get not a single negative comment because they are fast and cool. That's fine with me, but if folks have different priorities, like perhaps cutting carbon emissions, that's fine with me too.
I for one am happy to see an American car company coming out with a market-leading car that has the potential to take energy saving technology forward. It may be a bit on the pricey side, and the premium over any other car from GM probably won't be made up in gas savings, but it's an innovative, advanced technology car that is worthy of some attention.
Let us define a dimension, which we shall call "ξ", that represents the combined state of smug cluelessness which characterizes hybrid drivers, Wiccans, and all those who passionately believe in obscure magics that they cannot explain.
It was imperative, from a marketing standpoint, to have this new, wonderful, magical, vehicle of our collective salvation, introduced by someone who perfectly embodied this smug cluelessness. In a word, they needed someone with a world-class "ξ" coefficient.
Because with the one, AND the other, THEN, brothers and sisters, you've got "ξ" SQUARED. And that is the super, most bestest concentration of "ξ" POSSIBLE with our current technology.
@DoctorNine: What if GM teams with Apple to develop the in-car communications and entertainment system? "ξ" cubed? I can't handle this...this is too much. Make it stop.
