I submit then that we are all qualified to be editors for C/D and should be hired at once, en masse, for a fat shared salary and free cars to play with and car-related swag. We can make Graverobber and Ashe do most of the writing. and the rest of us can sit around and cheer them on. And drink.
At one point I subscribed to a dozen different car magazines. C&D was one of them. I always appreciated the slightly off-balanced passion the C&D staff had for cars and car culture. The days of DED, Sherman, Bedard, Yates, Lindamood, LJK Setright and many other contributors gave the mag a very distinct personality that stood out from the 11 or so other mags I read every month.
Can C&D make a comeback? Well, I believe you can never go home again, but you can live on the same street, wear your dad's old fishing hat, listen to your mom's Marvin Gaye records and throw a tennis ball against the garage door until all hours of the night. As long as you realize its not a parallel universe, it can be an acceptable existence. Good luck, Eddie.
Growing up, I didn't care about cars, other than they meant freedom from my parents for a while. At 18, I didn't know the difference between a Z28 and a Z3 (really, a friend bought a Z28 and I thought he had a BMW).
At 20, someone gave me a giant box full of back issues of Car and Driver, and the reading was so entertaining I read every page of those and quickly sought out more. C&D is the reason I like cars today, but I canceled my subscription when the last good writer, Yates, was gone.
I would love for C&D to return to its former style, but when I read the line about "general outrageousness" I had to laugh. It's been anything but for years. But I hope that comes back too.
So who's got one of those subscription cards lying around?

That's a great idea. Hey, we even brought our own barkeep!

And I'd say we're on a much better track.
I might even re-subscribe...
